Faiza Adan, 27, said a man driving a ute made the throat-cutting gesture during a two-minute racist tirade while stopped at traffic lights in front of her on Buckland Rd in Nundah.

A passenger in Ms Adan’s car took pictures and a video of the incident.

“He was yelling about Paris and bombings and Muslims,” she said. “I was a bit scared but I didn’t really know what I was doing.

“I was glad I had someone with me because I don’t know what I would have done if he would have done something.”

Ms Adan told The Sunday Mail the man, who she said had earlier cut her off, reversed towards her vehicle when the light turned green before driving away.

“He didn’t hit it but he came really close,” she said.

The Multicultural Development Association worker, who believes she was targeted because she wears a hijab, explained she spoke out because there many Muslims were being targeted around Brisbane.

“This kind of thing we, as Muslims, see a lot,” Ms Adan said. “I will hear people yell at me on the street to go back to where I came from.

“It’s just getting more intense and people are getting more abusive because of our religion or how we dress.”

However, Ms Adan, who is from Somalia, was adamant the attacks were a only a bad reflection on the individuals who made them; not the wider community.

She had said the matter has been reported to police.
