Bangladesh is apparently immensely rich in "generous, intelligent and well-read people": there are 160 million of them.
Yet they cannot organise 'generous and intelligent' social institutions in their own country.

They cannot? What about books and blogs that blame Islam?

Please explain.

It takes more than a couple of guys blaming Islam. Who then get hacked to death.

How about people who come out to support those who get hacked to death?

Does that count?

Count for what? The hacking goes on. The corruption goes on.

https://cpj.org/asia/bangladesh/

Are you saying the protesters are corrupt, or that they are hackers too?

A bit of the old taqiyya, no?

Depends. Pakistan has the highest economic growth in the region. It's thanks solely to population. Pakistan will be in the G20 by 2030.

Stupid, mendacious, all. Allah Uakbar, no?

I love it when people go on a week long contiki tour of a country then feel qualified to discuss the culture and character of the whole country.

Bangladesh is quite a small region with much of it under water. Having 160 million people and climbing really isn't very smart. When you see their ports and rivers they look dirty and full of rubbish. They have too many people. Like you said it's the same for most of that part of the world. If you are going to live like that you need order and technology like China. Otherwise it's a mess always at the whims of mother nature with massive poverty and  people dying before their time.

"They"? I’m not sure who you mean.

Ever been there, FD?

Am I not qualified to comment if I have never been there Karnal?

You'd think they would have learned their lesson by now.

Bangladesh is a hell-hole, but the people are the most generous, friendly and open people I’ve met in any country. They’re intelligent, well-read and fiercely independant.

We would do well by having them here.
Well read??? Wikipedia- Bangladesh has a low literacy rate, estimated at 61.3% for males and 52.2% for females in 2010.[111] The educational system in Bangladesh is three-tiered and highly subsidized

When did the Australian cricket teams stop playing cricket in Pakistan, did they stop going because muslims like blowing themselves up?

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

Good to see you do some reading, Homo. Like I said, Bangladesh is a crap-hole. People who have kids don’t think about adding to the population. In most parts of the world, children are a form of aged care. Only the middle classes save money for their retirement. Most people  in the world plan for their retirement by producing people to take care of them, bring in the harvest, and travel to the cities (or other countries) to get work and send home money.

This is how most people live, it’s not about being smart or less tinted or having better genes, it’s about the only options open to you. In this case, those options include the ability to produce labour - literally - by having kids.

Maybe, Baron, but I’m a bit confused how a post on economic growth in Pakistan inspired a reply about the Australian cricket team.

I’m sure there’s a connection somewhere. Does it have to do with foreign-backed head hackers in Bangladesh?

The main reason China is different is the one child policy, and more recently, market liberalisation.

You’re doing very well evading the question, FD.

I understand. You’re worried we apologists will hack you to death, no?

Don’t be. We’re actually quite nice in the flesh.

And how exactly is it in our interest to import people whose only motivation in coming here is to send money offshore or to import unproductive grandmothers??
