The reason for this is Tony Abbott is the very model of divisiveness. His entire career from student politics on is a history of declarations of war. He even called his book, "Battlelines".

This old chestnut: conservatives are divisive while "progressives" are inclusive. Of course, except if you are Christian, conservative, a banker, rich, successful, a white male, have pride in oneself and history, straight, are family orientated etc. etc. etc.

The real difference is the honesty in their approaches. Conservatives will tell you straight up who they like and dislike. "Progressives" hide all their divisiveness behind feelgood slogans like diversity, tolerance and the like.

She took the Labor Party to its lowest ever polls and the 2013 election had the ALP receiving its lowest-ever primary vote.

That wasn't the question, Mechanic. How was JuLiar divisive?

are you kidding me???

she tried to drive a wedge between every male and female in the country by playing the "Sexist" card..

bloody pathetic... especially when she promised never to use her gender as an excuse for failure..  Roll Eyes

Yes yes. She declared a war among the genders. Clearly.

She never used her gender as an excuse for anything.

And she was quite a successful Prime Minister. Got more through a tricky parliament than Tony came even close to.

Gillard never had a hostile senate dickhead.. if you can't tell the difference then stay off the political forum..

Love seeing the more brainless rightards here, True Blue and Armpit lashing out at “Juliar.” There is a reason for that: they instinctively know it will be PM Gillard that will become increasingly recognised as the greatest PM for 60 years.

Julia is out there working at a high level in a field she loves: education. No sitting in the HoR waiting and wishing for someone to offer a high paying job like Costello did.

Gillard will shine in our history when abbott & howard are mere footnotes.

PMSL!!!! That is GOLD. Simply hilarious. I didn't know you were so adept at comedy! Wow, you're the most delusional phuckwit on this forum by far (even more than GW)!!!  Grin Grin Grin Grin

no he is right.. Gillard is shining out in our history.. take a look at the OP ... Monkey obviously agrees...

Plenty of "conservatives" are inclusive, Mistie. If Abbott was so honest about his likes and dislikes, why the need to be all hush hush during an election? Why the need for false election promises, three-word slogans and policy built around spin?

How about a paid parental leave scheme just to prove Abbott liked women?

Or his non-committal on gay marriage and rolling out his lesbian sister to play gay-friendly?

The Abbott government was the least stable, and the least honest we’ve had in recent memory. I bet you’re ever so glad to see Turnbull in the chair, just like the rest of us.

"Conservatives" and "progressives" alike can breathe again.

Why women hated Gillard? Internalized misogyny is a hell of a thing.

Fun fact, strong independent female characters focus test the worst with general female demographics, A series of Star Trek had to replace its planned female first officer because she focus tested poorly with women. What are the responses from women? "Shes bitchy", "A women shouldn't argue with a males orders" etc etc

Also some of the strongest attacks of Feminism have come from women and female conservative groups.

Feminism/gender equality and women who fall outside "traditional" gender norms attack the patriarchal, misogynistic false consciousness that many women build their lives upon, "oh I'm a great woman because I shacked up with a rich guy and I have a family and big suburban house!, my man is the best" you would be surprised how overwhelming this outlook on life is for the average woman, even most Gen Y female classmates I have on facebook post poo like this all the time... in 2015.

Its sad this is still very much the case, I personally experienced vicious misogyny against Gillard coming from female co-workers, acquaintances and on social media. Anyone who says Gillard wasn't a victim of misogyny is grade A full of S***

the reviews after Gillards Hate Speech of men in Blue Ties..

Quote:
Scathing reviews from the Left and feminists, including even one of the founders of Destroy the Joint:

Social commentator Jane Caro said it smacked of desperation and could blow up in the Prime Minister’s face…

Ms Caro added Ms Gillard’s abortion comments “smack of desperation, like it’s her last card’’.

“I am deeply worried about it,” she said.

She said the broader playing of the gender card “feels like a political tactic rather than a statement of real belief’’…

“ I’m worried it will create this very idea that we don’t want, which is that women in politics only represent women. We want women in politics because we want the brightest and the best of all available people.’’

University of Technology, Sydney, professorial fellow Eva Cox said voters shouldn’t be swayed by politics that uses gender to rally votes.

“This strikes me as part of continuing to push the misogyny thing,’’ she said. “If women want to vote for Julia, they should do it based on the policies that both parties are putting up, not on the possibility that there might be something on abortions, given the federal government control in that area is?minimal.”

More reviews:

It raised eyebrows within Labor, with some MPs believing the Prime Minister had “jumped the shark”.

Coalition women described the comments as desperate and offensive. Even one Labor MP, Stephen Jones, said he was surprised by Ms Gillard’s pitch.

He stressed he supported a woman’s right to choose but “I am not convinced of the wisdom of kicking this into a political debate’’...

And another:

And there’s Wendy Harmer, co-founder of The Hoopla, who says her readers haven’t been impressed. She told the ABC: “I’ve been getting emails all day saying ‘Did she really say that’?”

Hmm. Maybe we should indeed be scared of treasurers in blue ties delivering budgets aka Wayne Swan

But be aware: Gillard’s speech is not just an appeal to women to prevent her being replaced by Tony Abbott. It is also to appeal to prevent her being replaced by another man - Kevin Rudd.

not to mention she was a godless, childless, unmarried, lying, backstabbing witch   Angry

You can disagree with gay marriage and not hate gays. It's not an 'you're either with us or against us' mentality. The ppl was a bad idea from a conservative. There may be a few exceptions here and there, but generally, "progressives" are the ones claiming to be humanity's best friend then launch into a tirade of anger against their enemies.

Many people around the world see it as a ceremony highlighting the union between man and woman connected  with their religion.
