Cods, other than Alice, the rest of us do not live down rabbit holes.  Get a grip of reality.  War, famine, drought, pestilence, flood, fire, tsunami..etc etc etc exist, as does human nature, and if there is a solution, no-one has yet found it, and it will never be found by stating the bleeding obvious.

I'm sure they have cods.  Most do.

She married him and had that child with him.  As for the rest, I have no idea, and neither do you.

Cods, do not allow Aussie to bait you into his incessant passive aggressive mind games.

It is the modus operandi of a perpetrator who victimizes people esp women who want to speak out and speak up.

Many women across 2 forums now know this. Some no longer feel able to post online thanks to this stalking troll.

Just so you know.....ok?

Lolz

and then

lolz some more

PM committed to introduce Respectful Relationship Education in the curriculums of all Australian schools from Kindergarten to Year 10 by 2017.

They already cover it in Humanities and Social Sciences.

How to react to certain situations.

The right way to respond to situations.

It covers bullying.

I think the government is grandstanding, the teachers must be shaking their heads in amazement.

And it has EPIC FAIL written all over it. You don't learn good relationship skills in a classroom. You learn it by living in a household that demonstrates it. Once again, it is putting  responsibility onto teachers something that the community should be teaching. It has zero chance of even making a difference, nevermind making a meaningful one.

I don't know why you are excited. It is just another school subject where kids can learn all the right answers and apply absolutely none of them to real life.

well it was Abbott idea.... but why 2017????..

whats wrong with right now????

oh thats right it could all be forgotten by 2017 couldnt it?

I agree Cods.

Unfortunately, we're talking govt... and by now, we ought to know that everything and anything any govt touches turns into some red tape drama.

It takes time to develop a curriculum that excises all racism, all sexism, all inequality and all potential references to Christian ideals while embracing all cultures and sexual orientations. And of course let's not forget the fact that there are 'no right ways of doing things'

It will be absolutely worthless in the end. It will eliminate all the keys of good safe relationships in the desire to embrace everything and exclude no one.

I beg to differ.

We need to effect change at grass roots level across our entire country.

The awkward and awful truth is that not all households in Australia can provide a positive role model of behaviour for the kids living in them.

Education and awareness unlocks many closed doors...and nips many issues in the bud.

I therefore welcome this Federal govt initiative and hope it generates more funding.

The necessary skills to break the cycle of violence and abuse needs to happen from the get go. This requires an awareness of the dynamics involved from the get go too.

Just remember this Maria...domestic violence is currently costing our country around $15 billion a year. Also, since 2000, the cost has quadrupled.  That ought to give you an idea of how out of control it is.

I can think of many other areas this kind of money could be going towards.

1. Time? That's ok. All good things take time Maria.

2. Worthless in the end? How do you know that?  Perhaps that's just your personal pessimistic opinion...or are you relying on your crystal ball?

I'm not disagreeing with the intentions, but I cannot see this as being anything other than an epic waste of money with zero positive outcomes. You are asking teachers with dysfunctional relationship to teach kids on relationships... and the kids will know.

If you want to teach kids about good positive relationships the last think you need is a person with a MA in Counselling and on their third marriage. Rather, you want a married couple with 30 years of happy supportive marriage with a  few positive, well-balanced kids to teach the class. People who have actually done the hard-yards.  It is people like them who can give kids and teens the hints no tertiary educated 25yo who just left home can do.

I expect it to be a failure although that failure won't be quantified or recognised for another 15 years and another generation has moved on...

I'm happy to be wrong and in fact, I would be delighted to be wrong.  But could you point to a government run schools-based curricula to change the patterns of behaviour that has been a roaring success or in fact a success at all? Teen pregnancy? Drugs? Bullying?  it is the wrong people teaching in the wrong place and largely teaching it the wrong way.

This approach must cease immediately before full-scale war and Mutually Assured Destruction become the norm between men and women.

If there's MAD between men and women, there'll be no people left.

This is an absurd concept, really. Men and women are not going to war, even if some people decide to lump everyone from one sex into a giant heap.

The courts might be make so unfair decisions, but society isn't about to draw up sides over it, only a small number of people are heavily invested in it

How then explain the rising number of deaths and acts of violence, and the only response from government being some more oppression of one side, which will only generate more violence and deaths?

You need to think outside the propaganda circle for a change...

Let us reverse the situation - how about men have the total and unmitigated right to complain about anything and have the old lady slapped with a court order, then the right to run off to a refuge when they feel 'invalidated' in the relationship, taking with them all that they contribute to the relationship, including the children, and then demand more than half of the decaying corpse that is left?

Sound good?

No - it - does - not!  You would crucify any man who demanded that and label him a total bastard, loser and abuser - why then do you support it for women without any conditions?

Get a grip, lad.
