Turnbull ~ Direct Action May Not Work
Oct 1st, 2015 at 7:53am

Turnbull on RN just stated that if D.A doesn't work then the government will respond.

Why wait. Accept the science ... a market mechanism was working before the Liberals scrapped it.

Bring it back and stop risking everyone's financial security.

Apply the same logic to the NBN. . .12:1 is all FTTN will give, at horrendous expense.

Environment Minister Greg Hunt has quietly published data, just two days before Christmas, showing the second year of operation of Australia's carbon price was more successful at reducing emissions than the first.

New data from Australia's National Greenhouse Gas Inventory show emissions declined across Australia by 1.4 per cent over the 12 months to June.

That compares to a decline in emissions of 0.8 per cent for the previous 12 months.

The carbon price was introduced by the Gillard government and began operation on July 1, 2012. It ended on July 1, this year after the Abbott government fulfilled an election pledge by abolishing it.

The new data, published on Tuesday, record emissions produced during the final year of operation of the carbon price, from June 2013 to June 2014.

A market mechanism works ... and Turnbull is risking everyone's financial security just to keep the loonies in his party on side.

...well the whole anti-mining anti-industry political campaign of the Left is certainly being felt these days with mine workers being massively unemployed and the steel industry collapsing...... Sad

How do you feel Comrades?  Happy I guess as that was your objective in the first place.

Current problems in mining seem to relate to demand ? Nothing to do with imagined anti-mining, anti-industry  sentiment.

Asking polluters to do the right thing is hardly unreasonable or an indication of being against the industries involved.

You know very well why he is waiting. Because he has to do so. I expect he will leave DA in the corner until everyone forgets about it. If he wins the next election, he will have more scope to change policies.

Wrong. They're paid to invest in cleaner and more environmentally friendly technologies.

He will likely be assassinated in his first term if Libs get back into the government. The conservatives still control the numbers and Turnbull is a trojan horse with them all hiding inside. It's their path of saving their seats.

There is no way conservatives will accept progressive policies ... no way, and anyone who thinks the Libs have changed are extremely gullible.

No , he does not have to do so. He has gotten rid of the dinosaur Abbott and now he must man up against the loonies for the sake of the country. If he does not he will go down in history as the disaster following the disaster!

Wrong. They're paid to invest in cleaner and more environmentally friendly technologies.

The people paid were in cases paid for what they were doing anyway.

Quote:
Most of the interest was from people who want to plant or protect native trees that soak up carbon dioxide, and companies running landfill sites promising to cut emissions from decomposing rubbish. Money will also go to piggery owners and projects to store carbon in soil. Coal-fired power plants and other industrial big polluters have not bid, at least not at this stage. They don't have to – they can keep emitting without penalty.

All up, contracts were signed for 144 projects that Mr Hunt says will cut Australia's emissions by 47 million tonnes. The projects in this first round will cost taxpayers $660 million.

This is without doing anything to address the pollution at its source.

Here we go - a policy to spend $4 Billion and fix nothing.

Wrong. They're paid to invest in cleaner and more environmentally friendly technologies

Looks like they are not doing it ?

Direct Action won't work because pre-existing projects were not barred. Out of the 144 projects funded by the ERF, 107 were pre-existing. The ERF ended up paying $66 per tonne for new abatement, making it one of the most expensive carbon prices in the world.

Fail.
