Remember Ashby~Brough/Slipper's Diary?

Turnbull's appointment, by way of reward, of Brough will bite eventually.  Brough was up to his neck in the unlawful mis-use (theft) of Slipper's diary, and that incident has not gone away, and neither should it.

Did you see his first Lateline interview with Emma Albericci?

He hurled into her. He was visibly angry at her questions about Slipper. He shouted her down in a very military manner. It was not a good look. Albericci's questions were fair. They're all on the public record. People expect answers.

Brough's elevation could well be a thorn in Turnbull's side, but he's a mate.

it would be poetic justice if they locked Brough up. He deserves it for being the slimy underhanded dog he is.

He blamed her for quoting from the first judge's ruling on what was judged to be a political conspiracy. He said that this was overruled in the Supreme court, but I have my doubts.

Albericci chose not to hit back. Ashby was almost berko. It was nearly a Clive Palmer walk-off situation.

Brough didn't get that this is what journalists do: they put questions to people that they're free to rebut. Brough wanted a cosy chat about the new government. When Albericci raised the Slipper thing, Brough saw red.

I found the link which includes the TV interview.  Now, I'll go look for the Full Court comments that Brough was making much of.

At the 8.24 mark.

Link.

Quote:
Mr Brough is being investigated under Section 70 of the Crimes Act, which deals with the disclosure of information by Commonwealth officers.

It carries a maximum two-year prison sentence.

If Brough is found guilty, his seat in Parliament becomes vacant. A by-election would be necessary, and you can bet your house that the swing in a by-election caused by the criminal conduct of the MP will be larger than the swing in Canning.

Thanks. I'm willing to bet Brough's appeal ruled on something completely different.

It'll never happen. He won't even be charged.

This is probably what Brough was referring to from the Full Court (Federal Court) Appeal:

Quote:
That Brough was prepared to consider allegations of misuse of travel entitlements in relation to Slipper and to
look at evidence produced by Ashby which might support these allegations does not necessarily mean that his purpose was
to harm Slipper politically.  It is at least equally open to
infer that Brough was assisting a young political staffer who believed he had unearthed corrupt conduct.

Amounts to nothing more than speculation/observation upon speculation/observation, and it is certainly not the clear vindication Brough was claiming with Emma A on Lateline.

Bear in mind, this was not an appeal by Brough.  It was an appeal by Ashby.  Those comments were made in passing, as were the original damning comments of  Rares J in the initial Trial.
