New paper on CO2
Aug 4th, 2015 at 12:44pm

'Continuing current carbon dioxide (CO2) emission trends throughout this century and beyond would leave a legacy of heat and acidity in the deep ocean. These changes would linger even if the atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration were to be restored to pre-industrial levels at some point in the future, according to a new Nature Climate Change paper from an international team including Carnegie’s Ken Caldeira. This is due to the tremendous inertia of the ocean system.

Greenhouse gases emitted by human activities not only cause rapid warming of the seas, but also an unprecedented rate of ocean acidification. Ocean acidification occurs when atmospheric carbon dioxide is absorbed by the ocean and forms carbonic acid, inhibiting coral reef growth and threatening marine life.'

https://carnegiescience.edu/news/greenhouse-gases%E2%80%99-millennia-long-ocean-...

So now we know- inertia is a one-way condition.

An increase in atmospheric CO2 has an immediate effect on the oceans forming carbonic acid....!!!!

But a reduction in atmospheric CO2 doesn't even count or help in reducing the carbonic acid in the oceans ....???

Then what the ferk are we worried about....????

Sounds like an alarmist paper designed to scare the bejesus out of people that think the experts know what they're doing.

MALARKEY.....MALARKEY.....MALARKEY....!!!!!!!

What does the current data say.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I will check my records, and all the relevant documentation, but I doubt very much that you were given written permission to post a comment of this level of deranged lunacy in this particular thread.

I suggest that you apologise and then leave

It is a very worrying article.
I believe that CO2 does cause ocean acidification.
The atmosphere should not be a rubbish tip for our CO2.

When the new ice age is over in 2030 to 2040 we can expect
temperatures to go up horribly.

I am glad that Obama is trying to do something about it.
I also hope that nuclear fusion or Thorium reactors can replace the present power generation methods.

So it's not a MINI ICE AGE ladies and gentlemen.

It's a NEW ICE AGE.

yes you heard it right here, on the jethro newsflash, which has been verified by Dr Sircus and his baking soda cancer cure circus act, and Dr Lie with her deranged lunacy.

A NEW ICE AGE, that commenced in 2014 (the warmest year on record) and will stop suddenly in 2029, exactly 15 years later. Then rapid horrible warming will start cooking the planet.

And Jethro is so sure of his religious theories and slave sermons that he has augmented the finishing time of his 15 year NEW ICE AGE event by as much as 11 years.

Apparently this NEW ICE AGE, may cease sometime in the period 2030-2040.

Not 2031 to 2043, not 2029 to 2037, not 2034 to 2041...

Oh no, it's definitely 2030 to 2040. A 15 year NEW ICE AGE that may run for 26 years and then suddenly stop so that horrible warming may take place.

If Dr Sircus and Dr Lie had not verified the predictive work of Jethro and his slaved based church group then one may start to worry about its accuracy.

And remember Dr Sircus can cure cancer with baking soda and magnesium powder bought at the supermarket. Grin

Warming makes the oceans out gas more CO2 into the atmosphere so how can this make the oceans more acidic.

Cooling makes the oceans absorb more CO2 from the atmosphere and then we would have some acidification..!!!

Quote:

New paper debunks ‘ocean acidification’ scare, finds warming increases pH

Via the Hockey Schtick:

A paper published Friday in Climate of the Past reconstructs water pH and temperature from a lake in central Japan over the past 280,000 years and clearly shows that pH increases [becomes more basic or alkaline] due to warmer temperatures, and vice-versa, becomes more acidic [or “acidified” if you prefer] due to cooling temperatures. This finding is the opposite of the false assumptions behind the “ocean acidification” scare, but is compatible with the basic chemistry of Henry’s Law and outgassing of CO2 from the oceans with warming.

Thus, if global warming resumes after the “pause,” ocean temperatures will rise along with CO2 outgassing, which will make the oceans more basic, not acidic. You simply cannot have it both ways:

Quote:
“
“Either the oceans are getting warmer and the CO2 concentration in seawater is decreasing, which means that ocean acidification from man-made CO2 from the atmosphere is nonsense.

Quote:
“
Or the oceans are getting cooler and the man-made CO2 from the atmosphere is dissolving in those cooler oceans and causing – insignificant – ocean acidification, which means that warming oceans and the associated sea level rises are nonsense.

Quote:
“
Take your pick – REAL SCIENCE says you can’t have both.”

In addition, the paper shows that pH of the lake varied over a wide range from ~7.5 to 8.8 simply depending on the temperature of each month of the year. As the “acidification” alarmists like to say, a variation of 1.3 pH units is equivalent to a 1995% change in hydrogen ions due to the logarithmic pH scale, just over a single year! Summer months are of course associated with warmer temperatures and more alkaline, higher pH and winter months associated with colder temperatures and much more “acidified” lower pH values. Note also how pH varies widely over ~7.5 to 8.8 simply dependent on the depth at a given time, because colder deeper waters can hold higher partial pressures of CO2 than the warmer surface waters

What are the relative rates of absorption at different water temperatures?

You also need to examine the transport mechanisms (ie mass transfer within the oceans, and especially at the water/air interface)

I assume that you have looked into these mechanisms in detail Batman - there is ample literature available.

Chimp my dear friend you cannot have it both ways, either the oceans are warming and out gassing CO2 into into the atmosphere which would make acidification unlikely.

OR

The oceans are cooling and absorbing atmospheric CO2 from the atmosphere.

Which is it to be.................?????

Ever since the IPCC computer climate models have been proven wrong by comparing them to the empirical data, alarmists fuelled by international bankers have been clutching at straws.

The acidification of the oceans while the Earth is heating up may be feasible on the computer climate models of the IPCC but are certainly not visible in the real world.

The simple truth is the oligarchy wants to create a $2 trillion dollar carbon derivatives market where they can manipulate our money with booms and busts.

While taxing us all on the air we breath.

And you know what they say about computers sh!t in sh!t out.

Quote:
New SPPI paper on Ocean Acidification

Since the CO2 causes catastrophic global warming schtick hasn't worked out, many alarmists have now turned their focus onto another imaginary problem: CO2 causing "acidification" of the oceans. A new SPPI paper by Lord Monckton exposes the fallacy.

Key points:
•Doubling of atmospheric levels would only increase dissolved CO2 in the oceans by .48%

•There is no reliable evidence that ocean pH is falling

•Increased CO2 dissolution in the oceans increases calcification of shellfish and coral

•Corals evolved at a time when CO2 levels were 15 times higher than the present

•Laboratory experiments on sealife in which hydrochloric acid is added to the water (not CO2) and without the natural buffers present in the ocean is meaningless to determine effects of increased CO2 levels on sealife.
Other recommended resources on "Ocean Acidification":

4% of the CO2 is the atmosphere is manmade from fossils fuels.

The other 96% is natural due to the warming of the planet.

So you guys want to be taxed on the air we breath because of this 4%.

What are we to do about the 96% that's natural....!!!!!

Atmospheric CO2 levels have increased about 40% over the industrial period - the majority of which has occurred over the past 60 years.

What proportion of this increase (ie from 285ppmv to 400 ppmv) is due to human activities such as fossil fuel combustion??

Warming makes the oceans out gas more CO2 into the atmosphere so how can this make the oceans more acidic.

Cooling makes the oceans absorb more CO2 from the atmosphere and then we would have some acidification..!!!

The oceans are a net carbon sink even though text books will say everything comes out of solution with increasing temperature... because there is more than one process at play: it's called a complex system!

What proportion of this increase (ie from 285ppmv to 400 ppmv) is due to human activities such as fossil fuel combustion??

And what proportion is due to greening of the planet? Increasing humankind?

Good questions: got any answers?

Nope but it shows it ain't all fossil fuels.
