Yes sell and move into something cheaper; but you'll probably lose half of the age pension, due to the means test of the pension.
What the government should do, abolish the means test of the pension, abolish all tax concessions for super, and there would many half empty houses for sale.
But will they do? Fat chance, the banks, super industry advisers, Unions have all their noses in the super trough, and the house prices owned by the pollies may also drop.

Here we go again.

John, the selling agent DOES KNOW the reserve price. In fact the reserve price has to be in writing.

The selling agent needs to communicate the reserve price to the Auctioneer who will use it to guide the auction.

Once the reserve price has been reached, the Auctioneer will know that the house is being sold that day.

Thus the Auctioneer will then make the announcement to all bidders THIS PROPERTY IS ON THE MARKET. That announcement lets every bidder know that the auction is close to the end. As such, they need to get their final bids in.

Must work differently in NSW Lisa because in Qld, only the auctioneer knows the reserve.

In both States, the requirement is that the agent must be informed (by the vendor) of the reserve in writing before the auction.

my own area of 'knowledge'? how so dopey? I've only ever attended one auction in my life ... I don't generally have anything to do with them.

And I still got it right ... you want to be a pendatic dick that's your prerogative, ... usually you're just a dick and pendantry has nothing to do with it.

the end result of my comment doesn't change.. that is, that no one is allowed to tell the buyers the reserve price.

No questions at this time, m'dear ... but what I have been observing in my general locality for the past 25 years has been the horror of nice quarter-acre residential properties being snapped up by greedy developers and turned into squat, ugly 'villa's compressed together like beehives on a honey farm, with no greenery, but only echo-y concrete and a soulless atmosphere ... and needless to say ... ALWAYS becoming occupied by an endless stream of Pacific Islanders and sundry other Third Worlders who neither look like Australians or think like Australians.
