Shorten is neutralising the issue.

But for the record, what a person. Completely disagree. It's a shame that human rights has become a punching bag.

really where were Human Rights when  kids were being bashed to death on Xmas Islands rocky out crop???..

funny I dont recall hearing a word from  them as the world watched 1100 people DIE>over six years...

I too would like to punch them in the head...if they ever get it out of the sand  Angry Angry Angry

Where was your condemnation of the Abbott opposition doing everything they could to ensure the drowning's continued for as long as possible ?

you mean he opposed sending them to a country that has THE DEATH PENALTY???....why would he do that?

oh thats right AUSTRALIA IS AGAINST THE DEATH PENALTY

unless your a lefty.. then its ok... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes to break the rules..especially if it sort of helps get votes..

I think you had better look at the rocks floating in your head...... unless you can come up with papers that say destination Australia but turned back now heading to Greece......better ask ozzie he comes up with everything.

Cods solution to protect human rights is to deny human rights.

Is it wrong though?  You're concerned people die at sea so the solution you support is to deny those people their human right to seek asylum.

who said anything about fault? You're the one pretending that the drownings have stopped.

Just for once, can you at least pretend to use your brain, just for a second?  Forcing them to go elsewhere doesn't stop the drownings, it just means they drown elsewhere.

like Cambodia? One of the most corrupt and authoritarian regimes on earth with some of the highest rates of poverty in the world?

Also Shorten doesn't admit Abbott is right, everyone in Labor knows the refugee scheme is lazy xenophobic populism, but lazy xenophobic populism is far easier than actually admitting you are both wrong and repairing relations with South East Asia and working on a regional solution with the United Nations involved as well.

In fact, there is a high chance that doing the RIGHT thing would actually lose votes as most people here can't hide that they are outright racists and couldn't actually care less if people drowned at sea if they couldn't throw it in the faces of Labor and The Greens.

Lets be honest here, the vast majority of you right wingers would support shooting refugees as they arrive if it "stopped the boats". Like how you support the cover up of torture, child rape and murder in the concentration camps that make up Australia's horrific refugee program.

Tomorrow the Labor Party’s National Conference begins in Melbourne.

It’s the opportunity for Bill Shorten to finally demonstrate that Labor has changed.

To do so, Bill Shorten must:

Stand up to Labor’s Left and the Greens and reject plans to reintroduce a job-destroying Carbon Tax

Stand up to Labor’s Left and the Greens by supporting ALL the Coalition’s successful border security policies, including Temporary Protection Visas

;Stand up to the union bosses and break their influence over the Labor Party, and support the Coalition’s policies to end the thuggery and lawlessness of unions such as the CFMEU

Finally give details of exactly how Labor will pay for their $52 billion in unfunded spending promises; and

Detail Labor’s plans to get the Budget back in balance and reduce the massive levels of debt Labor created.

In recent weeks it has become clear that Labor has not changed and remains committed to the same policies, deals and outside influences which gave us the six disastrous years of Rudd/Gillard/Shorten chaos.

The fact is Labor's got too much baggage.

Labor has not changed.

Bill Shorten is not a leader.

you are right that that is all he is doing. He is taking the vote-losing out of the policy although he still has a massive credibility problem. Voters have got to firstly believe that he is genuine and that he can stop the rest of his party from dumping it anyhow. After Rudd, who would believe Labor saying that will keep the boats out or even try?

If you could read... and understand... almost anything, you would already know that despite Abbotts problems, the public views Shorten as a lot worse and less trustworthy.

You think people pay too much attention to asylum seekers. They don't. All that will happen is they'll recognise both parties are just as viscous and will move on to issues that actually matter, economy, health, education.

They have virtually the same disapproval/approval ratings.
