Will India ever rise from its dire economic state
May 26th, 2015 at 12:42pm

The Indian GDP per capita is around $1600 while China's is around $7500.

It is rather amazing how India a capitalist and democratic nation has languished while China, a communist and autocratic nation has prospered.

India appears unable to solve its own problems which are exacerbated by the population growth.

Currently a heat wave is burning India and causing power shortage. It would seem rational that India should be maximising the potential of solar energy in such circumstances, however the leaders don't get the message.

India lacks visionary leaders and in the absence of such leadership will never emerge from its present impoverished state.

Indian leaders just don't get it.

2 over populated crap holes heading for oblivion...as Spazgali celebrates  Roll Eyes

China’s water resources are overallocated, inefficiently used, and grossly polluted by
human and industrial wastes, to the point that vast stretches of rivers are dead and
dying, lakes are cesspools of waste, groundwater aquifers are over-pumped and unsustainably
consumed, uncounted species of aquatic life have been driven to extinction,
and direct adverse impacts on both human and ecosystem health are widespread and
growing. Figure 5.1 shows the major rivers of China. Of the 20 most seriously polluted
cities in the world, 16 are in China. The major watersheds of the country all suffer
severe pollution. Three hundred million people lack access to safe drinking water.
Desertification, worsened by excessive withdrawals of surface and groundwater, is
growing in northern China (Feng 2007).

Hooray Spazgali, hooray!! Roll Eyes

Addressing China’s crippling water problems is hampered by the efforts of local governments
to protect local industries and jobs, government corruption, the desire to
sustain rapid economic growth, and what has been described as the “crippling
weakness” of the leading national environmental regulatory body, the State Environmental
Protection Administration

Both China and India have a major challenge with water/food.
Human caused climate change shrinking the glaciers in the Himalayas that feed rivers in both countries.

Meanwhile the west are planning on hiding behind the Indians in a Indian/China war, be it a physical or cold.

The sad truth about India is that for decades their best brains have been migrating to the Anglo-Sphere because of better pay rates and promotional opportunities.

Every bright Indian who the West accepts as a migrant is an exercise in stripping India of its best assets.

It's a process of denuding the Indian subcontinent of its richest resource ~ their best brains.

I tried to mount a Ghandi-like sitdown strike in the road outside of Sydney Airport's immigration terminal - but an Indian taxi driver nearly ran me over ...  and so I'll have to go to Plan B.

The indian culture is too rude for it's own good: it's a product of too big a population however so it's not an easy solution.

I think you'll find solar power is the exact solution they don't want to offer their people as whilst it will provide for the people it won't provide for the separation of rich and poor which is what the powerful are going to try and maintain.

Their hand will be forced to make it look as if they are spreading the wealth when it becomes apparent their neighbours are climbing out of poverty... revolution is always around the corner.

Well when you’re so obtuse and give the one reason for China’s water supply as “AGW did it” expect flack, especially after all the excepts posted. This is not global warming, this is localised environmental degradation.

Their monsoon is one of the most depended upon weather events on earth: if AGW is responsible for affecting that you have potential for very great political upheaval!

A study by the China's Ministry of Water Resources found that approximately 55% of China's 50,000 rivers that existed in the 1990s have ... disappeared.

According to Jiang Liping, senior irrigation specialist at the World Bank in Beijing, China is over-exploiting its groundwater by 22 billion cubic meters a year

Amazing figure!!! All put down to overuse…. Shocked

Actually, you'll find that it's SNOW melt, not glacier melt that feeds the rivers in India, and possibly China as well.

China's water efficiency is another problem. Industry in China continues to expand and compared to other countries, is highly inefficient. Liping said, "water use efficiency and water productivity in both industry and agriculture are very low."

Don’t the spazos on here keep telling us to look to China for great environmental practice?

Spazos….lol  Grin
