Its not the total population of humans on the planet that has the biggest impact but rather HOW certain nations or groups of people live.

take the USA for example which only makes up about 5% of the total global population and yet, consumes about 1/3 of the worlds resources and produces about 30% of the globes total waste and pollution.

So you could have a planet comprised of say 3 Billion US citizens and the impact of the environment and resources is identical to say 45 Billion citizens from Vietnam or 270 Billion Bangladeshis.

The "gross numbers" hide which communities and individuals are causing the most problems for the planet.

Dig deeper and you realise that about 1 billion Humans on the planet are living unsustainably and causing about 90% of the impact on the planet.

And the Australian citizen is the World Gold medalist when it comes to carbon emissions. (partners with Canada and the USA)

People who point to overpopulation issues as the cause of the worlds problems usually live in the West and in the developed world (developed world could also be considered a contradiction in terms)

What was it the Ibuki satellite showed; oh yes , Australia the world's third largest carbon sink. And a slight tinge of pink showing emissions from Sydney, Melbourne and Wollongong.

And OCO satellite showed nothing; except for the tropical north- sparsely inhabited and very little industry.

You're dead wrong about the oligarchy not wanting to trade in carbon credits, its going to be a $2 trillion dollar market per annum, even oil companies are pushing for all governments of this world to tax their people on the air they breath through carbon credits.

The Kotch borthers which btw I didn't know about until you brought it up here might be against carbon trading and taking orders from big oil or anyone else for that matter.
