No.  i don't recall these predictions that "Dams will not fill" and "there will be no rains", etc.

Perhaps you could reproduce them for us here - in there full context so we can see what Dr Flannery ACTUALLY said.

Could you do that please?

Yes we have done that one before and in context and you still come on here like you have no clue.

Perhaps you could reproduce them for us here - in their full context so we can see what Dr Flannery ACTUALLY said.

Why won't you do that?

Shall I help you?

This is what Prof Flannery said in 2007, during the last major El Nino influenced drought in eastern Australia:
PROFESSOR TIM FLANNERY: We're already seeing the initial impacts and they include a decline in the winter rainfall zone across southern Australia, which is clearly an impact of climate change, but also a decrease in run-off. Although we're getting say a 20 per cent decrease in rainfall in some areas of Australia, that's translating to a 60 per cent decrease in the run-off into the dams and rivers. That's because the soil is warmer because of global warming and the plants are under more stress and therefore using more moisture. So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems, and that's a real worry for the people in the bush.
http://www.abc.net.au/landline/content/2006/s1844398.htm

He didn't say "dams will be empty in 2015" or anything like that - did he.  He didn't say we would never have another La Nina event or anything like that -  did he.

He made the simple, and uncontroversial observation - that winter rainfall is decreasing, and also that warming will reduce runoff.

We are observing that the earth is clearly and unambiguously warming, hence it is obvious that we will see a reduction in runoff.  And he said there has been a decline in winter rainfall in Australia, and this is exactly what is being observed:

Since 1970 there has been a 17 per cent decline in average winter rainfall in the southwest of Australia. The southeast has experienced a 15 per cent decline in late autumn and early winter rainfall since the mid-1990s, with a 25 per cent reduction in average rainfall across April and May. Declining rainfall in the southwest has been statistically significant over the recent period, and has occurred as a series of step changes. The decline in this region has also been characterised by a lack of very wet winters.
...
http://www.bom.gov.au/state-of-the-climate/

Are you saying that the observation made by Prof Flannery is incorrect?  Why?  Please explain.

The anti-cyclones are not reaching into the country like they used to... arctic sea ice is looking frightening as an indicator of global warming where the northern hemisphere was always expected to feel it first as the thermal conveyor always made the northern hemisphere warmer than the southern.

The very fact wind-patterns are changing in the southern hemisphere truly makes this a global phenonomenon.

That's what you get from a hob knob academic, better than though environmental activist. Unqualified and unquantified statements, in context mind you, that makes the speaker of such hog wash sound like an absolute fool. Mind you he has a fervent following  Cheesy Grin

Thanks for the context rabbit. It helps with the original statements that he was not taken out of context.

What you reckon Timmy. You still psuedo sciency back this statement

FIVE years ago, Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery predicted that the nation's dams would never be full again and major Australian cities would need desalination plants to cater for our water needs.

Yesterday, in his latest report, he said "climate change cannot be ruled out" as a factor in recent flooding rains, which led to some of those dams overflowing.

The apparent contradiction accompanies predictions that heatwaves, made worse by concrete, asphalt and buildings, will cause deaths and violence in western Sydney.

And just weeks before the carbon tax is due to come into effect and drive up electricity prices by 10 per cent, Professor Flannery's fellow commissioner Lesley Hughes said elderly people who cannot afford airconditioning were most at risk from the surge in temperatures.

Other claims in the report include that Sydney Airport will be flooded by a 1.1m sea level rise and catastr- ophic bushfires will happen more often.

Professor Flannery was quizzed at a press conference to launch the report yesterday on whether people would believe the latest round of predictions or if he thought some of his past predictions about rainfall and dams had been wrong.

"I've been really consistent with what I've said, which is that we've got a water problem in this country," he said.
