Was this a quick comeback?

I thought so.
I forget what the hassle was yesterday but my 9yr old grandson was told if he did it again he wouldn't live to see another dawn.
Quick as a flash he said: "Does that mean I'll be nocturnal now".

Sometimes you don't know whether to say "don't be smart" or laugh.
I burst out laughing.

It reminds me of when I was 8 years old and my father came wandering into the lounge room looking frustrated over a crossword puzzle he was doing.

One of my older brothers asked him what the question was - which he dismissed with a wave of the hand. But then he read it out to us with an air of hopelesness.

Quick as a viper I said: "moneyspider".

He didn't talk to me for the rest of the day ...

I dunno about that. Mum told me what nocturnal meant a long time before I reached 9 years of age. But the retort was a good one for some at age 9.

For sake of interest, Herbert, what was the question?
