Worlds Healthiest Foods...!!
Feb 9th, 2015 at 7:55pm

this is one of my all time favourites...

in fact... I've only just started using it recently on the advice from a work mate...  Tongue

Spinach is an excellent source of vitamin K, vitamin A (in the form of carotenoids), manganese, folate, magnesium, iron, copper, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin E, calcium, potassium, and vitamin C. It is a very good source of dietary fiber, phosphorus, vitamin B1, zinc, protein, and choline.

Chickpeas... this is another of my new favourites...  Smiley

Chickpeas are a nutrient dense food, providing rich content (> 20% of the Daily Value, DV) of protein, dietary fiber, folate and certain dietary minerals, such as iron and phosphorus (right table, US Department of Agriculture National Nutrient Database).[19][20] Thiamin, vitamin B6, magnesium and zinc contents are moderate in providing 10-16% of the DV (right table). Chickpeas have a Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score of about 76%[21] which is higher than fruits, vegetables, many other legumes and cereals.

Compared to the FAO/WHO[citation needed], chickpea proteins are rich in essential amino acids like lysine, isoleucine, tryptophan and total aromatic amino acids.[22] Thus, chickpeas can complement food containing low amounts of protein.

A 100 g serving of cooked chickpeas provides 164 calories (right table). Carbohydrates make up 68% of calories, most of which (84%) is starch, followed by total sugars and dietary fiber.[19][23] Lipid content is 3% (right table), 75% of which is unsaturated fatty acids for which linoleic acid comprises 43% of total fat.[24]

Quote:
Chickpeas are indeed very good for you, not least because two to three tablespoons equate to one portion of the daily recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables.

Chickpeas also contain phytoestrogens which are weak plant versions of real oestrogen. There's evidence that these may modulate the body's own production of the hormone in a way that could lower the risk of breast cancer, protect against osteoporosis and minimise hot flushes in post-menopausal women.

Broccoli

...

Quote:
Broccoli's nutritional profile is impressive. It contains high levels of fiber (both soluble and insoluble) and is a rich source of vitamin-C.

In fact, just a 100 gram serving of broccoli will provide you with more than 150% of your recommended daily intake of vitamin C, which in large doses can potentially shorten the duration of the common cold.1

Broccoli is also rich in vitamin A, iron, vitamin K, B-complex vitamins, zinc, phosphorus and phyto-nutrients.

Phytonutrients are compounds which lower the risk of developing diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers, according to the USDA's Agricultural Research Service2.

Prevent osteoarthritis - a British study revealed that broccoli contains a compound called sulfophane which may help fight osteoarthritis3 - sulforaphane can block cartilage-destroying enzymes by intercepting a molecule that causes inflammation.

Protect your skin against the effects of UV light - broccoli may help prevent skin cancer, not by eating it though, but by applying it directly to the skin. An article in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that the damaging effects of UV (ultraviolet) radiation can be appreciably reduced with the topical application of a broccoli extract.4

Reverse diabetes heart damage - eating broccoli promotes the production of enzymes that help protect heart blood vessels5 and reduce the molecules that damage them.

Reduce cancer risk - eat broccoli just three times each month and you could potentially reduce the chance of developing bladder cancer6 by around 40 percent, according to experts at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, USA.

Broccoli plant compound detoxifies air pollutants in the body - research from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, MD, suggests new benefits of eating broccoli.

heres a tip for aspiring male athletes , body builders etc. Think green when you eat vegetables, green vegetables promote health in many ways but the best thing about them is that they block estrogen in males. Forget about the steroids, eat broccoli instead, it works. Combined with red meat your testosterone levels will soar, naturally.

the humble egg is a perfect food.  don't eat too many raw ones however or you become biotin deficient as Avidin, found in the egg whites, is a biotin blocker.

you are 100% WRONG...

Quote:
Oestrogen is vital for sex drive and avoiding obesity, say doctors

Men with too little oestrogen can develop 'male menopause' symptoms

These include weight gain, loss of libido and muscle weakening

These symptoms were previously often put down to falling testosterone levels

well that explains all of those rock hard erections that a cat couldn't scratch that I've been getting lately...  Undecided

Blueberries, an Antioxidant Superfood. Packed with antioxidants and phytoflavinoids, these berries are also high in potassium and vitamin C, making them the top choice of doctors and nutritionists. Not only can they lower your risk of heart disease and cancer, they are also anti-inflammatory.

...

I love them on pavlova with strawberries.
