I have already had the hip replacement.

Now it is more discomfort rather than pain, but I am tired of always having that dragging at me.

When one part of your body is out of whack - the whole of your body is affected. Even when you've only broken one tiny bone in a foot or leg - you have to put ten times the effort into dragging yourself around. Having hip problems would be a huge drain on your energy.

People are killing themselves with pain killers though, so it's probably better to look for other alternatives when it comes to pain management.

After the hip replacement op I was given 20 Endones (opiates) when I was sent home. Stopped taking them after a few days then a few days later woke in the early hours thinking of the Endones, that I should take one. . .spent two hours wrestling with myself then took 2 Panadol Osteo, went to sleep and never thought about the Endones again, took the 11 I had left back to the hospital pharmacy soon after that! That really shook me up, how I wanted to take another Endone! I believe I just skirted the edge of addiction, confirmed when working out with AnnieLaurie on my board, on vicodin long term, that I was within a tablet or two of addiction, well of problems with addiction anyway.

So I tend not to take too much in the way of pain killers. Nice glass of beer at the end of the day does the job for me, feel nice and happy sipping the amber fluid  Smiley

Been getting some messages re my proposed gardening board, combine it with Fermentations. Guess we could call it “Grow it, Can it, Ferment it” or something like that.

My chooks, Naffy and Blacky agree:

Inspired by some of the warm and wonderful people here and PA.

Chooks are so practical, look at this wonderful advokaat I made from egg yolks and St Agnes brandy:
...

I like custard too, baked custard, creme brulee, pouring custard. Comfort food I suppose. Looking forward to learning to make pastry so I can make some real vanilla slices. The ones in the shops have so much gelatin in them you could use them for hockey pucks!

Never tasted eggs until I kept my own chickens. . .incredible how different truly fresh eggs are. Can’t use an egg separator, the whites are that stiff, I crack the eggs into a small bowl, fish the yolk out carefully with a round spoon, the only way of doing it.

I vary their diet as much as possible: grains, grass, weeds, get carrot tops and beetroot leaves from the Market. Once the heat is passed will set up a temporary run in front of that pond, let the birds out to scratch around and eat bugs. Heh, one of the stupid birds managed to fall into the pond—they can swim  Grin Grin Grin

Pond is only 65cm deep codsy, sure you would be OK if you fell in. Hmmm now why would codsy fall into a pond? Hmmm. . . Wink Smiley

Yup, booze can be an addiction, but if you manage the beer and not the other way it is fine. Had to give up the booze a month before the op and kept off it 2.5 months after, until I got the OK to get back to normal life. Not a problem, not a craving.

Not drinking every day is part of managing the booze.

so did you hear anything about a gardening section Geo??.. or is it too early to call....

I do think you being the person we can all ask questions of.. it will go well in your fermenting board....all those fruit trees you grow...I have a cherry tree did really well for its first year so I am expecting a lot more next season...have lemon and a lime tree in pots.. so dont expect too much from them...a plum tree sounds nice though

Have not heard of any interest in a gardening board or increasing the scope and changing the name of my board. . .maybe I will start a Gardening thread and see if there is a response? Have a topic in mind inspired by none other than dear old codsy  Smiley   (runs and hides  Grin)
