McDonald Jones Homes behind the myth
Feb 7th, 2015 at 1:25pm

Thinking about building a home? Thinking about the cool adds for McDonald Jones homes with their free air con?

Well...con..being the key word.

My son signed up for a McDonald Jones home after checking out the exhibitions ones in Penrith. I saw it  myself, fabulous home.

Then having signed up, the veils were parted. Apparently all the 'up market things' in the exhibition home were not included in the quoted price.

So when it came to the real world the tiles, carpets, fittings etc that were in the exhibition home were not included in the price for the actual article and choice of inferior products were given to the sucker who signed up.

Not only did the buyer have to pay for the 'upmarket items' he had to do more than pay for the difference between the top and the ordinary product. He had to pay for the entire worth of the 'top stuff' on top of the quoted price for the house.

Now if that person wanted the exhibition home stuff which my son did it came out to around $66,000 more.

What a joke. My son got out and it cost him a couple of grand to do so. What a bloody cheek these builders have reeling in unsuspecting couples then hitting them with reality once they had signed up.

Sounds about right.

You get the walls, the ceiling, the windows, and the roof.

Not much else.

All builders are pretty much the same.

(No idea who McDonald Jones is)

I'll bet there was a Contract which listed what you got.  Some people are very gullible.

You'll go see a lawyer about buying land, yet...signing a contract to build a house.....nah.

Dumb dumb.

The land purchase is the real reason that red junior had to cancel the house, apparently you can't build on sink holes.  Cheesy

It's terrible that your son trying to buy a first home had to donate $2000 of his hard earned to the shonk builder.  But that's what we need you know.  Take away all these regulations that are just an unnecessary burden on small business.

nothing dishonest in it, although I do see why some people get caught in it. .... the contract will clearly list what he gets . If the gold plated taps and twin bathtubs not on the contract, then why are you expecting them?

As already mentioned, this isn't something exclusive to McDonald Jones Homes (whoever they are), this is something all builders do. It is a standard marketing practice.

That was a message from the builders association.

The puropse of these tactics by builders is to cloud, confuse and confound the application of rational analysis to price of housing.

The dazed customer walks away not sure of what they are getting and how much it cost.

More importantly, it prevents the customer from comparing with other builders by a process of obfuscation as to desitability and quality of the extras that have been committed.

Builders sales people should wear a mask and hold a gun so the true nature of their actions are evident.

Just read the contract before you sign, how easy can it be.
