I only got the cartoon, not the accompanying article.

Not a bad article, and does raise some good points.

But I don't think he's grasped the real meaning of these cartoons.

His take seems to be that they are to show a gun-loving, violent culture that
the Persil-white West doesn't use violence to fight its battles, but words, and
he goes on to show, quite correctly, that this isn't the case.

But then, we already knew that.

My take, and it appears to be that of the majority, is that the cartoons are to
show that 'we' will not be cowed into silence or submission by these attacks
and the reason they are in cartoon form is simply because the victims were
cartoonists* who were killed because they drew cartoons.

*Obviously the dead flics weren't, and no, I haven't forgotten about them.

Charlie Hebdo satirised and pilloried almost everything that's come out of the murders. One of the surviving cartoonists likened the support that they've received to the psycho protests against the Mo cartoons in Pakistan. I believe he said he "vomits" on the hypocrites now standing with them.

Charb probably dies another death every time a politician or mainstream journalists post #suis Charlie.

this thread to me is poor taste..it does neither the French nor us any favours...and that goes for those who think the cartoons are funny or make a point..

the point is about 20 people are dead....because of a cartoon...I am sorry.. I dont get it.... how many people saw those cartoons..?? I bet no one in Australia ever bought the magazine just to read cartoons on Islam...

no it isnt.... if FANATICS think its worth killing over....

fanatics are like tumors they are everywhere cut one out another takes its place...
