Having actually read the article - which apparently most of you ahvent - it is rather obvious that crime overall ahs dropped slightly but that some categories have risen and some have fallen.

Quoting simply the crimes that have risen is just as dishonest as quoting those that have fallen.

the article didn't actually dispute the claim only saying that the question was too complex for simplistic answers.

ummm I'm pretty sure thats exactly what was posted in the OP. Having actually read the OP, which apparently you haven't.  Grin

So as to the relevant issue Longy - since you have read the artlcle, has assault, robbery and car theft crime actually gone down by 25% overall as Newman claims, or is he lying through his teeth?

Do you support Newman's motor cycle gang legislation Gandalf? Or would you prefer the gangs, which over the years seem to have taken on a distinctly muslim flavour, continue to prosper with crime and violence?

I'm simply asking you a question about a crime- and Newman-related matter.

If you don't wish to answer, don't. This is not a fascist forum.

Oh yes of course, just an innocent question wasn't it bogarde - with a completely innocent dig about islam - that you just happened to direct to a muslim  Tongue

Not that I care about that - but I'll admit your obvious attempt at deflection with your "or would you prefer..." attitude, and then crying innocence when taken to task - does rile me.

But back on topic, I don't have an opinion on the effect of Newman's law and order policies, because I haven't been following it. But I do know a lie when I see one, and I happen to believe that dishonesty in politics is something that should be exposed and the culprit be held accountable.

What is your opinion boges? Is Newman's porky pie excused on the basis that he is achieving outcomes in this area? Should we be silent and not speak out against Newman lying because of this?

How would I know whether he is cherry-picking? But John's question: "when are the libs going to stop lying to us", sets the topic up for a farce.

But I thought, as it was relevant to crime, a question on another tack would be useful. However you don't want to answer it so we'll leave it.

he didn't say overall and there is the rub.  like most people he is using complimentary statistics.  But as lefties you should be applauding that.  That's how you come up with most of your insane positions on anything.

Come on longy, he was deliberately vague: "They have seen crime rates, things like assaults, robberies and car thefts, drop by 20 to 25 per cent." Thats obviously intended to give a misleading impression. All he had to do was add "in some areas" at the end of that statement if he wanted to be honest about it. But he didn't - he was deliberately ambiguous to misleadingly imply he was talking about the whole state.

so you haven't read the OP? then you'd do well to not comment until you do, you'll only make a bigger fool of yourself than usual

the only thing that makes such a statement no problem to me is that you boofheads make gross misuse of statistics all the time.  I am not going to criticise Newman for making a statement that is largely (but not completely) true when you clowns openly make statements that are complete lies.

Cherry Picking? then perhaps you should tell Newman not to cherry pick. He's been saying for months that serious crimes (listed previously) have fallen by 25% .. he lied. deliberately. He's a lib right? hence my thread title. Don't like it tell them to stop lying at your next branch meeting

the way you misuse or misunderstand statistics makes you the last person to complain.
