chicken sandwich with a slice of cheddar cheese..  Undecided

That's unlike you.

My husband is cooking a tongue for my very curious kids to try. I'll be having chopped up sausages and a bowl of mashed potato because I'm sick and whiny and that's a good comfort food.

I used to see them in the super market all of the time... not so much anymore.. maybe in the butchers..

I feel like puking at the very thought of eating one mind..  Undecided

Tongue tastes very nice, bit tricky to prepare.

You need to poach the tongue until tender, then “peel” it while hot. If you make it the meat in a soup you will find it is delcious and creamy in texture.

Tell your kids: A tongue that has never told a lie.

While in/around a cow’s mouth—beef cheeks are tough but they are cheap ($8/Kg) and when cooked slowly for a few hours the meat is all tender, delicious, glossy and gelatinous. The Indonesian beef curry Beef Rendang with its long slow cooking makes beef cheeks the choice there.

If you like bangers and mash you will love having some plum and onion confit with it, even red onion marmalade.

I won't eat tongues or offal of any description.  It just doesn't appeal to me at all.

Japanese cook tongue quite well on skewers.  It is the only way I will eat it.

I say get a decent job so you don't have to eat offal and other rubbish that is better off ground up in a sausage. No offence to those old age pensioners who haven't saved for their retirement, boil all the old heads that you like.

Completely agree St. George. I used to help my maternal grandmother prepare cow tongue,(for corning), and lambs tongue to slow cook with veges and aromatics. I love both cold, thinly sliced with hot English mustard in a sandwich. I'm not a fan of liver/kidneys/heart/lungs as separate components, but will eat haggis. Tripe, I will gladly clean, prepare and cook, but I don't like the taste.

Dinner tonight is fresh picked corn on the cob, lots of real butter, pork sausages, smashed spuds. Sometimes simple is so yum.

you are so lucky.... even the smell of decent fish and chips is a thing of the past.. the last time I ate really good fish and chips was in NZ.. and it was run by an Asian...lol... I am going to London for a few days and its one of the must haves...I am hoping they still have one or two really English fish and chip shops that you can smell long before you get there.. the vinegar bouncing off the crunchy chips...oh I think I will die and go to heaven in a minute just thinking about it.

tonight I was cooking a pasta with a chorizo and tomatoe sauce, had just finished the sauce when wifey dearest came home and told me to put that on the back burner as she bought salmon ... now it's salmon with kidney beans and I'll probably make a salad to go with it.

It's not so bad, the sauce tastes better the next day anyway

Grin

I know right... the one thing that gets me these days are the premade chips all cut neatly to size in squares or rectangles... and not many little crunchy ones...  Sad

good luck on your trip when you go.. Smiley
