Cheese and wine, nice. The fact remains that Herby would make a very good moderator. He has strong views, stirs the pot when things get quiet, but doesn't interfere with other posters. Something like gandy.

Cheese and whine, yes.

I disagree about him moderating.

His troll posts have a very nasty undercurrent, and that helps to perpetuate hatred throughout the forum.

We don't need more hatred.

If he could tone down the racism, I'd support his troll posts.

He could learn a thing or two from Karnal.

Actually, that reminds me of a joke from Sir Les Patterson.

He used to sit on the Cheese Board, but had to quit after he got one of those little flags stuck up his arse.

It seems that I have upset a Moderator and are forbidden from using posting to the general forum now. So much for Freedom of Speech. Tsk, tsk, tsk...   Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

I think Herbert would make a good GM.   No matter how much he gets trolled and heckled he rarely rises to the bait and seems to always maintain a calm and witty persona.

It should not be about who you like or who you don't like.  The position of Mod should always be about someone who can remain calm and balanced no matter what is flung at them and be able to make decisions based on content rather than personal bias.

Personally, I think that Herbert is one of the very few who could pull this off.

Nope.

To my mind Herbert has not demonstrated a capacity to be "neutral" at any stage.

That will have, in my opinion, an eventual impact on any capacity to moderate. He can crack all the jokes he likes, but, when it comes to making the tough calls, he needs to inspire confidence, more so in his detractors than his sympathizers. Yes I am one of his occasional detractors, no he does not inspire confidence in me that he will be fair, neutral and open minded in applying the rules of the board.

Given that would seem to be one of the most constant concerns/whinges raised on the board, i.e. consistency, I think a Herb appointment would ultimately compound this perceived problem in the long run.
