Personally, I would see a bit of "naming & shaming", as appropriate, given that the judgement of the Moderator is the member has "crossed the line", particularly IF it assists in pulling "some" members back into line!

I would also suggest "some" other measures, to lessen the impact of "some" members, who seem happy enough to "crossed the line" and do so repeatedly, with only minor cost to them, particularly those who "employ" a sock or socks, in an attempt to avoid any  penalty's!

And, whilst I would concede these measures may reduce the forum usage "somewhat", at least for a while & therefore the possible forum income, I would suggest if measures along these lines are not taken, then it is likely this forum will finally go the way of others here (in OZ ), in the US & elsewhere, in that it will simply disappear and I don't see that as being in the best interests of either the owner or the members!

Anyway, a "few" things to think about or not?

Cheers!

I agree with that 100%.  Most here would.

I reckon the Forum as a whole, including the G/Moderators, would significantly benefit if FD's Rules about GM moderation (and any limit/restriction thereon) were widely known.............as it is with the limitations imposed on the Mods of the Member run Boards.  (In that case, everyone is aware of the (elongated) process which has to be gone through before any effective action will be taken.)

What is the logical explanation as to why the same awareness is not available to everyone concerning the Global Mods, PN?

Thanks for that perceptions now. Are abuse/insults/threats different if it is among people who aren't so thin-skinned?

IT IS JUST A FORUM .... not real life. As ADULTS we should ALL  be able to constrain ourselves ....... but constant harassment can affect even the most normal of people!

Some individuals appear to be hell bent on harassing and trolling certain parties. This is UNACCEPTABLE.

Every time I post, a certain individual feels the desire to reply ........... wait a bit. He will.  Wink This is called TROLLING. Then this individual has a go at me for "responding" and threatens "banning".

I am here to defend CODS as she seems to be the butt of many insults.

Hang in there, Cods.

Oh say it isn't so, they all scream that no body uses socks here sir.
There must be a bloody lot of them too if you think it could reduce the forum usage " somewhat" too. Huh

hahahaha hang is not a good word to use actually...

but at the end of the day it isnt only ME that cops it...and this is the point.. dont you think it spoils the forum.???  as in my mind there is no need for it..

yep I have seen a bit where threads get totally trashed because usually two people have a need to insult left and right...I dont really go in for that.. so far its been one person and as you say when you hit back..your threatened with being banned its a joke.....

then  out comes someone like Phem who thinks he knows everything about everyone.. and he picks his side...usually the one that is the aggressor...yes I use that word intentionally...because he does....he doesnt have a clue what people have gone through and

if you read the vicious post froma mods husband... to myself you will have some idea that it is more than INSULTING....if anything it breaks just about all the rules that said mod seems to get satisfaction out of reminding the peasants on here about...

I did not know of their acquaintance  let alone marriage...before this...to think the mod then attacks someone else here.. calling them snide.. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

and not a word about the filthy post....

to say I am gobsmacked is putting it mildly.

when you claim a certain individual is following you around the forum now you have some idea what I have put up with since I dont know when...its been forever.

yes I do ignore most of it.. but the fact that not one mod has done anything about it unless you call the odd banning for a couple of days....doing it tough....and then before you know it.. its business as per usual...

so I trust you dont expect any help from said moderators..and I feel for you if you are being treated like I have been.....at least you belong to another forum and can get away from such a creep........ at least I dont see you much on here.....I wish you well Nef.. and may you be left alone to enjoy your time on which ever forum you chose to be on...

Cods - it's obviously not going to be deleted and will stay there for everyone to see.  Feel sorry for them. If they can explode like that publicly then they've got problems.

I was thinking the same thing. There are so many new members who seem to know the existing members very well. The other alternative could be that they've been reading Ozpolitic for years and finally pluck up the courage to join, but I doubt it.

at the end of the day mantra it comes back to the moderating...hey know who these people are..if people on the forum can pick them out what does that say about those in charge?????...the person who made the vilest post in all my time on here or on yahoo...will come back under another ID...but the mouth wont change..it never does..

there is something wrong when people have to change their nic.. without telling everyone they have done so...its the first thing I did when I altered the spelling of mine...whats to hide..I dont pretend and put on a fancy facade like some do...

and as we know some dont like the truth as others see it.. only their own version...

These people have a problem with self control and no doubt after numerous bannings believe that a name change will bring a fresh start and no-one will be the wiser. Moderators have to care enough to do something about it and that's a big ask considering they have time constraints.

Some moderators have made the time to remove the serial pests, but we shouldn't take it for granted that they all will.
