I don't understand what you mean by put a woman down sexually. Are you talking about shaming? Could you give an example of what you mean?

I dunno, and no doubt Mantra will clarify.  Maybe she used the word 'sexually' when she was really referring to gender?

Maybe. Whether its affective or instrumental, aggression directed at women by other women is typically relational. Bullying, social exclusion etc. There's an evolutionary basis for it. If a woman is sexually denigrating another woman, she probably feels threatened by her in some way.

What do you mean by 'threatened?'  In what way?  I mean, I'm pretty sure that if a woman was looking to protect her position at work, it would not matter whether a male or female was looking like a challenger......she'd be equally self-protective against both in whatever way was effective?

Firstly, I think it would be unusual for a woman to attack another woman's sexuality in order to protect her job. It wouldn't reflect very well on her in a professional environment.

Discrediting women by making them unappealing as a partner is functional from an evolutionary point of view. This sort of behaviour is more common in women, while territorial aggression is more common in men for obvious reasons.

Perhaps she meant say, for example, I called you a sl*t or a wh*re, or if I was debating with you in this forum and resorted to insults such as "You have no tits." or "You have a cavernous vagina."

Nothing would be what it is,
Because everything would be what it isn't.
And contrary-wise - what it is, it wouldn't be.
And what it wouldn't be, it would.
You see?

The tried and true old ways to discredit women are to shame them and make them undesirable by painting them as either sluts or nuts.

Okay.  You are going on the 'sex' per se thing, as opposed to 'gender' which is where I was going.

Good observation Annie. Unfortunately aggressive females tend to perceive threats which usually aren't there and take the offensive rather than the defensive if in reality they were really threatened.

I don't think you're ever going to stop women being in competition with each other or men being in competition with each other.
As long as it's healthy competition ie: No bs, then I think it serves a good purpose.

When it diminishes to denigrating, catty, bitchy lies and innuendos (from men too), then it's only going to be the bs artist that loses respect and attractiveness in the long term...well, you'd hope so anyway.
It's easy enough to spot somebody who uses put-downs as means to try and raise the view of themselves. and unfortunately, this is often seen as drive and motivation in the corporate world.

Some people make such an art form out of it that you can think your having a normal conversation with somebody and then go away scratching your head thinking, "Hey! that person just threw a load of backhanded insults at me" ..haha.
But who cares? Those people will never have much contentment in their lives. It's a pity that they need to do this when they could be using their talents for goodness and not rottenness  Cheesy

it isnt about competition... when it comes to that there is not a lot of difference between the genders...

its how they compete...women are cruel and mean they dont in my opinion fight fair.. if they know something about a person.. that was even told in confidence they cant wait to use it..in a spiteful way...how many times to do hear one women call another a slut?....its the first word out of their mouth...women are easy targets... but other women are the worst offenders...

women seem to have fewer friends than men.. I have noticed..

If porn sites have a message to convey it is that there seems to be no end to the number of women who are happy to show their faces as well as their naughty bits.

There's no shame, no inhibition, no feminine modesty, no concerns about mum and dad, no saving oneself for that special guy  ~ in fact he's probably a porn star himself for the gay clientèle.

I don't think it's an accident that today's celebrity-females of movie and TV are virtually tramps and sluts who swing from different 'relationships' every 2 to 5 years or so.

The Minogue sisters are a classic case of bed-hopping, with Dannii staying just long enough with her 'love-interest' to get pregnant and then dump him as having served his purpose.

Miranda Kerr ... took a shine to some totally superficial stud ~ got pregnant, and then 'moved on'.

And this scenario is repeated throughout the entertainment industry.

No women do not fight fair..nor do they allow an episode of disagreement to ever be forgotten..covetting their perceived slights like a precious jewel..I hate that about women..get it out, say what you mean and move on...in that way I am like a man..pp who nurse grudges for years on end p*ss me off no end, passive aggressive dishonesty...that is why most women can never be friends..

Women are more aggressive toward other women than men are toward women. The feminists trot out dv stats and the like to paint men as the most aggressive, but men are no match for women on the emotional manipulation and shaming level.

Bingo. Women have excellent memories, particularly toward those that they believed wronged them. This revenge brews, simmers and ferments for years.

I think we at least "I "am talking VERBAL....

when it comes to violence of a physical kind.. I disagree males are far worse..;look  at war...

this isnt about MEN its about females and how they deal with other females..even when it comes to forums like this... and facebook is a classic...

women are mean...to other women...in the worst possible ways.

Some women get very physical as well...hair pulling screaming..I have seen it/know of it.. women whom you would never suspect capable of such a thing, in fact they are often those who protest the loudest at such dysfunction in other women... Roll Eyes

I am sure you have! thankfully I have been spared that spectacle.only for mobile phone...

however they dont do as much physical violence to each other as a male does.to a female...

unless you live in a different part of the world to myself.
