Clinton praises Julie Bishop
Jul 23rd, 2014 at 3:58pm

Former US president Bill Clinton has paid tribute to Foreign Minister Julie Bishop's efforts to get the UN Security Council to agree on a resolution on the MH17 disaster.

Ms Bishop has been widely applauded for her effort in securing the resolution, which also had the support of Russia.

"I was very proud yesterday to be in this country when the Australian foreign minister spoke at the UN," Mr Clinton told an AIDS conference in Melbourne on Wednesday.

Funny Clinton's opinions mean nothing every other day.

Then again 4 days ago the UN was a waste of time & money.

the UN is still a waste of time and money and that hasn't changed.  Just interesting that 'Nigel No-friends' or the 'travelling embarrassment' as labor loves to say is picking up kudos from pretty much everywhere. I never expected Abbott to be particularly good at diplomacy or international affairs but he doing a really really good job and frankly vastly better than the labor hacks and even much of Howards term as well.

At least the world knows we have balls and knows what we think.

Nice try at the Bullshit, Russia supported its resolution which was handed up the steel chastity belt.

Clinton was happy to be in Australia while Bishop away at the UNSC says it all!

I notice you've begun questioning people's ........what courage?

Courage is required to voice a differing opinion to the majority, not blindly follow & clap along.

And as has been pointed out to you in numerous other threads it's about your hypocrisy, now you want to quote Clinton, last week you would have poured scorn on the man because he womanises.

Last week the UN was.... well its been covered & yes you still say its a waste in a roundabout way but gone is the inflection, the contempt, now its just a shrug of the shoulders.

And frankly until this tradgedy you were MIA, I appriecate business ebbs & flows but not a post for months(the bad/hard months) yet now your here.

Some might say "Fairweather" Wink

Yes it's amazing how they think the UN is pointless, but when Bishop does something in the UN they are thrilled.

What the? Do you think they realise they make no sense?  I really hope that 90% of the time they are playing devil's advocate.

So far the world knows our Foreign Minister (and good on her) did very well at the UN.

But you think the UN is crap, so that's not really showing great balls in your opinion, now is it?
And as for Tony's comments...search international media, let's see how many actually carried anything he said.  And again, to what purpose? So he ranted for a bit, and the outcome is going to be what?  Having balls come with ACTION, not just words.

It would be of interest if we could see what Clinton said.  I was watching his speech, and he did not, when I was paying attention, especially single Bishop out.  He certainly did mention her, the Dutch bloke and the USA Rep.

with a post count higher than anyone else on here I think 'fairweather' is a rather ludicrous assessment. taking time off from here and concentrating on business would make a lot of sense, wouldn't you think?

inflection? contempt?  nothing has changed one iota about my opinion of the UN. Do I really need to reiterate every time what a worthless, pointless  waste of time money and effort the UN is?? The Australian resolution at the UNSC was as worthless and pointless as every other one it has ever made.

having a different opinion isn't the definition of courage. 'Light' has a different opinion on virtually every topic and he is merely insane. You can share the majority opinion and be courageous while being a small minority and a fool. or vice verse.

Courage is when you stand up for your beliefs and for those who cannot stand up. It is when you stand up to be counted for those lying in bits in a field on the other side of the world, their lives destroyed by a country that invades another and arms idiots with missiles. Courage is when you step out of your comfort zone to defend the rights of those unable to defend themselves. it is not courage to criticise those that defend those that cannot do so. That is true cowardice and we have seen that in spades here over the past few days.

so I expect you to become a vicious critique of the US, France, Britain and Israel.  Otherwise you're a man with no courage.

it starts with words, something you and your lefty comrades refuse to even do. Actions such as repatriating the bodies and sending forensic help.. they don't count? ringing putin and forcefully putting our case is not actions?

Uhmm from what I recall there was no forceful putting of anything.

And words must transition into Action. So once again, please tell me, to what purpose have Tony's words served?   It appears the Dutch and Malaysians are themselves sending forensic help and repatriating the bodies, but without beating their chests nor calling their assistance, "OPERATION BRING THEM HOME"
