Ethical whaling, what are your thoughts ?
Jul 15th, 2014 at 6:57pm

There has been a debate for the last 40 years about ending whaling and for the most part most countries have followed suit.
This has been an undoubtedly good thing and while the consensus these days for most people is to be against the practice, there are some cultures for whom whaling is not one of economic gain.

Should the ban on whaling be across the board across all cultures or should there be (in rare cases) be exceptions to the rule ?

There are many intercultural sensitivities that need to be factored in, in this debate. What are your thoughts on this matter ?

I think the problem is that wew all too often tack the word ethical onto something but not the actions.
I also find it a curious idea that some would justify killing whales as a cultural issue when there are a myriad other cultural issues ignored, degraded or otherwise treated with little or no sensitivity.

A range of whale species are at risk presently. That should be our primary focus rather than seeking excuses or lame justification of their continued slaughter.

The original moratorium (not ban) was organised by the whaling nations and industry itself for practical stock management reasons. It has been hijacked by deluded hippies and the veganazi movement. We have no more right to tell people they cannot eat whales than Hindus have to tell us we cannot eat beef.

I find it astonishing how myopic and hypocritical people get on the whaling issue.

People who can't distinguish between etymology and entomology bug me in ways I cannot put into words.
