US-Iran joint business venture

Expect more of this as 1. the Nuclear controversy becomes less threatening and 2. Iran is see as a potential ally in a world inhabited by a jihadist state.

*****************************************
A US company has signed a preliminary agreement to invest $1.175 billion (864 million euros) in Iran, in a rare joint commercial project to turn rubbish and human waste into electricity.

California-based World Eco Energy told AFP it plans to produce 250 megawatts daily by burning trash and by processing algae and salt and waste water into power.

Iran will match the US investment, the company said.

A company spokesman said the project, in the southwestern province of Chaharmahal-Bakhtiari, would create 600-700 jobs, 80 percent of which would go to locals.

It is scheduled to start in September 2014 and is an early indication of the foreign business that may flow back to Iran if US, European and UN sanctions are lifted.

Iran is in the final phase of negotiating with world powers about a conclusive deal to resolve international concern about its nuclear programme.

Despite the uncertainty that clouds Iran's economy, still shut out of the international financial system because of an embargo on banks and the energy sector, a more positive outlook is starting to prevail.

And here is more:
*******************************************

.
Boeing in deal to provide plane parts to Iran
AFP

Boeing has struck a deal with Iran Air to provide plane parts, the first time the US firm will be doing business with Iran since the US embargo of 1979.

According to a regulatory filing published Wednesday, Boeing will supply goods and services "related to the safety of flight" to Iran Air, the country's flag carrier.

The filing says that the agreement, reached in the second quarter, includes the provision of airplane parts, manuals, navigation charts and data to the airline, in line with the US company's recommendations to customers for such things as an aircraft modification, a parts replacement or inspection.

Boeing also reported it had discussions with the flag carrier's subsidiary, Iran Air Tours, on the potential sale of similar goods and services.

The Chicago-based company said that it had generated no gross revenues or net profits during the second quarter in relation with those activities.

In April, the US government issued a license allowing Boeing, for a "limited period of time," to provide "spare parts that are for safety purposes" to Iran. Boeing is still not allowed to sell new planes to Iran.

The license was granted by the US Treasury Department in the context of an interim deal between world powers and Iran over its nuclear program signed in November.

In late February, another US company, General Electric, indicated it had requested permission to sell spare airliner parts to Iran.

Washington severed diplomatic relations with Iran in the aftermath of the 1979 Islamic revolution.

The United States and European nations have imposed severe economic sanctions on Iran in recent years aiming to pressure Tehran to dramatically reduce its nuclear program for a lengthy period of time to keep it from developing nuclear weapons.

Iran has steadfastly insisted its nuclear program is for civilian purposes.

Thats quite interesting Boeing are allowed to do that.

We have specific 3rd party transactions within Iran - which are audited thoroughly by the US Dept of Energy and US State Dept to ensure we are not breaking any sanctions.

We are also not allowed to trade in any way with Syria, North korea or Cuba.
