If you want to call a Commonwealth government site a conspiracy site, perhaps you're the one who is into conspiracy theories.

Global warming issue silenced via 'argument by intimidation'
Angry

Letters To The Editor, The Morning Call , June 28, 2014

Saucon Valley School Board was not performing proper due diligence when it approved the questionable science book, "Environmental Science," by David Heithaus and Karen Arms.

In The Morning Call article, "Global warming heats up meeting," school board member Bryan Eichfeld objected to the science book on the basis of the teaching method and context presented in the book. In response, the remaining board members could only attack the residency qualifications of Mr. Eichfeld's climate expert, Paul Saunders, rather than argue the validity of the content of the textbook. This is a classic argument by intimidation as described by philosopher Ayn Rand.

In raising objections, Eichfeld invited Bethlehem resident Paul Saunders to speak to the board and present a 14-page paper he wrote dismissing passages in the book.

In the end, Saunders was allowed to speak. "'Environmental Science' does not take a scientific approach ... it has serious misrepresentations of CO2 levels ... and there hasn't been a global warming trend since 1996,'' he said.

When Mr. Eichfeld gave a rational solution to give the students more information, the remaining board members refused to even give the children a choice, and instead they will indoctrinate the children with one-sided politically motivated information. This is not a proper way to educate our youth.

25 Shocking Facts About The Earth’s Dwindling Water Resources

By Michael Snyder, on June 18th, 2014
The Economic Collapse Blog

War, famine, mass extinctions and devastating plagues - all of these are coming unless some kind of miraculous solution is found to the world's rapidly growing water crisis.  By the year 2030, the global demand for water will exceed the global supply of water by an astounding 40 percent according to one very disturbing U.S. government report.  As you read this article, lakes, rivers, streams and aquifers are steadily drying up all over the planet.  The lack of global water could potentially be enough to bring about a worldwide economic collapse all by itself if nothing is done because no society can function without water.  Just try to live a single day without using any water some time.  You will quickly realize how difficult it is.  Fresh water is the single most important natural resource on the planet, and we are very rapidly running out of it.  The following are 25 shocking facts about the Earth's dwindling water resources that everyone should know...

#1 Right now, 1.6 billion people live in areas of the world that are facing "absolute water scarcity".

#2 Global water use has quadrupled over the past 100 years and continues to rise rapidly.

#3 One recent study found that a third of all global corn crops are facing "water stress".

#4 A child dies from a water-related disease every 15 seconds.

#5 By 2025, two-thirds of the population of Earth will "be living under water stressed conditions".

#6 Due to a lack of water, Chinese food imports now require more land than the entire state of California.

#7 At this point, the amount of water that China imports is already greater than the amount of oil that the United States imports.

#8 Approximately 80 percent of the major rivers in China have become so polluted that they no longer support any aquatic life at all.

#9 The Great Lakes hold about 21 percent of the total supply of fresh water in the entire world, but Barack Obama is allowing water from those lakes "to be drained, bottled and shipped to China" at a frightening pace.

#10 It is being projected that India will essentially "run out of water" by the year 2050.

#11 It has been estimated that 75 percent of all surface water in India has been heavily contaminated by human or agricultural waste.

#12 In the Middle East, the flow of water in the Jordan River is down to only 2 percent of its historic rate.

#13 Due to a lack of water, Saudi Arabia has essentially given up on trying to grow wheat and will be 100 percent dependent on wheat imports by the year 2016.

#14 Of the 60 million people added to the major cities of the world every year, the vast majority of them live in deeply impoverished areas that have no sanitation facilities whatsoever.

#15 Nearly the entire southwestern United States is experiencing drought conditions as you read this article.  It has been this way for most of the past several years.

#16 Thanks in part to the seemingly endless drought, the price index for meat, poultry, fish, and eggs in the U.S. just hit a new all-time high.

#17 As underground aquifers are relentlessly drained in California, some areas of the San Joaquin Valley are sinking by 11 inches a year.

#18 It is being projected that Lake Mead has a 50 percent chance of running dry by the year 2025.

#19 Most Americans don't realize this, but the once mighty Colorado River has become so depleted that it no longer runs all the way to the ocean.

#20 According to the U.S. Geological Survey, "a volume equivalent to two-thirds of the water in Lake Erie" has been permanently drained from the Ogallala Aquifer since 1940, and it is currently being drained at a rate of approximately 800 gallons per minute.

#21 Once upon a time, the Ogallala Aquifer had an average depth of approximately 240 feet, but today the average depth is just 80 feet. In some areas of Texas, the water is already completely gone.

#22 Approximately 40 percent of all rivers and approximately 46 percent of all lakes in the United States have become so polluted that they are are no longer fit for human use.

#23 Because of the high cost and the inefficient use of energy, desalination is not considered to be a widely feasible solution to our water problems at this time...

    Quote:
The largest desalination plant in the Western Hemisphere is currently under construction in Carlsbad in San Diego County at great expense. The price tag: $1 billion.

Right now, San Diego is almost totally dependent on imported water from Sierra snowmelt and the Colorado River. When the desalination plant comes online in 2016, it will produce 50 million gallons per day, enough to offset just 7 percent of the county’s water usage. That’s a huge bill for not very much additional water.

#24 We have filled the North Pacific Ocean with 100 million tons of plastic, and this is starting to have a very serious affect on the marine food chain.  Ultimately, this could mean a lot less food available from the Pacific Ocean for humans.

#25 One very shocking U.S. government report concluded that the global demand for water will exceed the global supply of water by 40 percent by the year 2030.

Editor, The Oregonian

May 22, 1998

Editor, The Oregonian
1320 SW Broadway
Portland, OR 97201

To the Editor:

In his letter of May 19, Gerald Cavanaugh makes one false statement after another. Self-anointed spokesmen for "the Environment" appear to have such a weak case for global energy rationing (the Kyoto Treaty) that they always resort to ridicule, innuendo, name-calling, childish pranks, and outright falsehoods.

Their buddies no doubt spiked the petition with the forged signature of one of the Spice Girls. The global warmers would rather talk about her, or about the 452 American scientists of unknown qualifications who signed an unspecified statement from the Union of Concerned Scientists. They don't like to mention the more than 16,000 American scientists, two-thirds of whom have an advanced degree in science, who signed the following statement:

We urge the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan, in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals. The proposed limits on greenhouse gases would harm the environment, hinder the advance of science and technology, and damage the health and welfare of mankind.

There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing, or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate. Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth.

The review article distributed with the petition is heavily referenced to primary observational data and the peer-reviewed literature. It was written by four highly competent scientists, two of whom have published extensively in the field of climate change. No funding was received from corporate interests. Skeptics are invited to read for themselves. To date, no valid technical objections have been raised by serious scientists.

Mr. Cavanaugh is right about one thing: there is a grave cause for worry. But that cause is the Kyoto Treaty and the global economic havoc it would wreak, with devastating effects on humankind and other living things.

Sincerely, Jane M. Orient, M.D., F.A.C.P., 1601 N. Tucson Blvd. Suite 9, Tucson, Arizona 85716, (520)323-3110 or (520)325-2689.

Hey, Viky, still posting rubbish I see.
That "30,000 scientist signs" b/s has been thoroughly debunked long since..
"The Petition Project website offers a breakdown of the areas of expertise of those who have signed the petition.

In the realm of climate science it breaks it breaks down as such:

Atmospheric Science (113)

Climatology (39)

Meteorology (341)

Astronomy (59)

Astrophysics (26)

So only .1% of the individuals on the list of 30,000 signatures have a scientific background in Climatology. To be fair, we can add in those who claim to have a background in Atmospheric Science, which brings the total percentage of signatories with a background in climate change science to a whopping .5%."

Some signed up in 1998, 16 years ago, and many are actually DEAD! Posthumous signatures, dodgy much?  Grin

Want the TRUTH about that?

The so-called  "Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine" is a tin shed, owned and operated by an infamous Tobacco Industry scientist-for-sale, Arthur B. Robinson, he has a long track record of fraudulent "science".
Like I've said before, you really should check your sources before you post here.  Roll Eyes

No oil subsidy

Jeff Glendening, state director of Americans for Prosperity-Kansas, was absolutely right about the “harmful practice of meddling in the energy market” (“Stop subsidies,” June 27 Letters to the Editor). He cited credits for “ethanol; for ‘green’ technologies like wind, solar and biodiesel; for nuclear power; for electric vehicles; for hydrogen fuel cells; and for other forms of energy that have been grazing at the taxpayer buffet for years.”

He forgot one. How about the subsidies on oil and gas? With oil exceeding $100 a barrel, the folks in that business hardly need a subsidy.

I’m sure Glendening agrees with me. Or does that shoe fit too tightly for Americans for Prosperity?

Support nuclear

With our Earth running lower and lower on resources, our best option going into the future is in nuclear energy. Now, a lot of people see nuclear energy as “The Big, Bad Wolf” of energy. But one must look at the facts. This type of power is not as dangerous as it seems. There have only been a handful of nuclear power plant meltdowns in history, and the ones that did happen, happened in the mid 20th century before the technology that we have now was even close to being fathomable. The only meltdown that has happened in modern times was the Fukushima, and this was caused by natural disasters and not human error, insufficient technology or the plant being unsafe.

On a different note, the emissions of a nuclear power plant are simply steam and hot water. Both of these are completely safe for the environment and do not contribute towards global warming like coal powerplants. Overall, with these new guidelines being put in place for coal, why not think differently? I believe that if nuclear energy is given proper funding and attention it could solve the energy crisis. Rather than focus on a 30 percent reduction in emissions in 16 years, why not focus on a 100 percent reduction in emissions tomorrow?

DO SOME RESEARCH!
Your precious Jeff Glendening, state director of Americans for Prosperity would NOT agree with you, and he didn't forget at all, he's employed by the Koch FF, big oil billionaires, plus he takes money from the Oil Industry, that's why he's so anti the rest.  Grin

The AFP is the third largest recipient of funding from the Koch Family Foundations, behind the Cato Institute and the George Mason University Foundation.

Before 2003, when the AFP was still named the Citizens for a Sound Economy Foundation, it received $18,460,912 in funding. 84% of that funding came from the Koch Family Foundations ($12,906,712) and the Scaife Family Foundations ($2,510,000).

Koch Family Foundations is funded by the billionaires who lead Koch Industries. According to Forbes, Koch Industries is the second largest privately-held company, and the largest privately owned energy company, in the United States. Koch industries has made its money in the oil business, primarily oil refining. Presently, it holds stakes in pipelines, refineries, fertilizer, forest products, and chemical technology.
Americans for Prosperity is also connected to oil giant ExxonMobil. According to ExxonSecrets, between the years 1998-2001, Citizens for A Sound Economy and Citizens for a Sound Economy Foundation received $380,250 from ExxonMobil.[28]

Karen Jacobs suggested you should read the Texas Republican platform before voting Republican because apparently there are planks she finds objectionable. No party has objectives with which all agree. Looking at the bigger picture in Washington, we only need to look at results before considering voting for anyone in the other party. Let’s just look at the facts. Remember Democrats passed the worst health care legislation without a single Republican vote.

The White House has turned the U.S. into an international joke, shattered our Constitution, selectively enforced our laws, promoted class division among the people, not been truthful time after time and has a long string of cover-ups: Fast & Furious, Benghazi, IRS scandal (Lost emails? Come on!), VA fiasco. People are unemployed, our debt is shooting up like a rocket, more and more people are on government assistance.

What does the president talk about most? Climate change!

What’s scary to me is the members of his party are willing to follow him over the cliff and will defend anything President Obama does.

So I say, you had better look at results over the past six years when you vote. Texas is doing just fine.

IF YOU REALLY WANT TO STOP GLOBAL WARMING
JUST TELL PRESIDENT OBAMA TO SHUT HIS DAMN MOUTH

My theory is that he has orchestrated this latest debacle, with all the illegal immigrants from South and Central America, with its inherent economic, physical and health problems, to deliberately change the demographics of this nation. Think about it. This may not be the last. Read more here: http://www.ledger-enquirer.com/2014/06/19/3161950/obamas-agenda-of-destruction.html#storylink=cpy
