I'm SURE you have had a soft, marshmallow life and have rarely had to seriously exert yourself or leave your comfort zone.

You probably think dog eat dog means being first in line at a K-Mart sale.

The Right needs to learn how to apportion them.

it should be seen as a moral duty of all those who are getting older to help the young.
I don't see how burning all the fossil fuels, making the young cough up for the federal debt, saddling them with compounding interest on their HECS debt , making them fund their own retirement through super and wanting your own house exempt from the asset test so you can get welfare and pay no rent is, at all , fair.
I think the young got a rough deal in the last decade or so and continue to get a rough deal and it is due to the government being "scared" of grey power.
And , so they should, theres power in umbers which the baby boomers have.
When I see pensioner rally , I see people who are wanting their owns needs fulfilled and (this is the point), what government GIVES to pensioners it TAKES AWAY from other groups.
You can call this class warfare if you like or say I am trying to play one side off against the other, but that is the harsh reality.

If pensioners want to protest for lower HECS or agree to have their houses included in the assets test (which would free up and cheapen houses dramatically) , then i'll support their rally.
But I doubt that is their agenda.

What you are advocating is the subversion of every aspect of human life to economic rationalisation. What others are advocating is examining and restructuring the economy as a tool to serving the needs of human beings in society. What it boils down to is you think you support social darwinism but won't be able to explain why, because you do so on an emotional level, not rationally.

What 'other groups'?

Single parents? The unemployed? The disabled? Those who welfare is actually FOR?

No, of course not. I can't see you giving a stuff if THEY lose-out.

You fear for your wealth-fare (the real 'entitlements') and think you, personally, will
lose if these people are given a fair go.

Welfare IS a right, wealth-fare is rampant greed and selfishness at its ugly worst.

No, not at all.
lets say we reduce the old age pension by $5 a week . now with about 4 x the number of old age pensioners as dole recipients, we could then increase the dole by $20 a week.
So for the cost of a cup of coffee , we could really help out the people on newstart.
sound fair.
Lets see that on a banner at the rally.
We want $5 less and give it to our colleagues. Wink

Notice how aquascoot obstinately refuses to aknowledge any other option than fighting for the crumbs among the vulnerable of society? If we don't have enough revenue for the type of spending necessary for a decent standard of living for those who are entitled to such expenditure, then we need to apportion more of the budget, restructuring it around that principle. There are many different ways to increase revenue, simply enforcing the laws currently in place would go a long way. Posters like aquascoot want to keep people dumbed down about what the real options on the table are.

Let's say we abolish wealthfare and put it into the social welfare coffers.

Wealthfare is the straw that's breaking the camels back, it is unnecessary. Those that are capable of looking after themselves should do so. Those that need help should be given it. After all we have had a social welfare program since the early 1900's and it has stood us in good stead as a fair and caring nation. On the other hand wealthfare is a rather new conception and at this point in time is draining our finances without good reason.
