A certain amount of self-interest is good and should, theoretically, push people to do things and achieve things off their own bat.

The problem begins when greed takes over from self-interest, and those suffering from Greeditis forget that self-interest often means being a positive member of a group, or a positive team player.

I say this as perhaps The Greatest Lone Wolf around - yet in the right circumstances I am a great team player.  Multi-skilled - but I prefer Lone Wolf.

The difference is between self-interest and greed pure and simple.

I'd watch USA, whatever they do will decide whether we have to fall out with them or not. I'm not sure that the average Australian has the stomach for what that would entail. Americans are horrible bullies and there is NO DOUBT that there are all kinds of secret black lists. But we will need to face the possibility of withdrawning from the global system if we are to even begin to start to build some sort of decent alternative for Australians, in Australia with Australian resources.

think carefully,  do you really think withdrawing from world commerce will put Australia on the road to prosperity?
people like the products of cheap foreign labour.
they love the cheap clothes in Kmart made in china and india.
But they fail to recognise that labour is now a commodity traded throughout the world just like oil and wool.
If you want to build a more prosperous society, you will need to offer tradeable services that the rest of the world wants.
This is possible.
Asia wants our expertise in areas like
universities
engineering
finance
insurance
medicine.

We need to be, as the PM said "open for business'
We need to stop dragging down the "pie creators" and the "cream" with ridiculous tax structures like the , soon to be, top tax rate of 49%.
When Singapore and south korea offer rates around 9 to 10 %.
If we don't our labour "cream" will leave and there will be no one left in OZ but lots of angry pensioners protesting Wink Wink
When the politics of envy have destroyed the goose that laid the golden egg, you will be a greek economy.
You will have 50 % youth unemployment, you will have hospitals unable to treat you , you will have universities close because they cant pay the proffesors.

Rather than a rally of hate and envy, why don't the pensioners have a rally of hope , support and thanks.

A big rally to say "We support the movers and shakers and wealth creators"
"We pay homage to you for growing the pie"
"We demand the government do more to support our entrepreneurs and small business people , who have done so much for us" Wink Wink

What the hell? Pensioners have worked and consumed=paid the producers. End of debt to producers.

What is this govt help to entrepreneurs?

Something like the NBN would have been good for business but now is bogged down and a complete mess.

'good for business........................... and a complete mess'.
TONY.........

The only reason for that is the change of govt.

Like lots of other messes they're making all over the place.

WHAT IS WRONG  with people who earn in the top say 10 percentile  .. paying a couple of more c in the $ tax,,>??  for goodness sake.

YOU DO remember the old saying.. yeah  the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.  Do you..??

... another one.  Takes money to make money...

So ...  why  WHY.. is this RICH government punishing the poor...???

GOVERNMENT  is NOT  a  BUSINESS>

HOWARD brought that in.. User Pays. Cool Angry

Labor felt compelled to follow,  sadly...  and here we are today.

Rip every cent out of social programs for health education aged care ad nauseum..

Pay Multinationals in the Energy  industry our money to not  what?  waste energy  ???  rather than tax them on their carbon outputs..??//. F OFF

everywhere in Australia... we are facing what the policies of these privileged fools...   will mean.

For the poor.  the environment,  the GREATER GOOD.!!!

Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry Angry
that formerly privileged fools, voted in.

I read that emma and if it was the basis of a leftie "mission statement" I can see now why the left are "rudderless ships".

As those of the left are basicly lazy, I suppose twice yearly rallies have more appeal then starting a small business, getting up in the dark, coming home in the dark and watching something grow and become energised and successful.

It must be awful for leftards. You only get out of life what you put in and they seem prepared to put in so little.
They remind me of fat drunk slobs at the football screaming abuse at the elite athletes who are putting on the show.
they don't realise just what a parody they are

They've done that for forty odd years. Now it's time for them to have some relaxation at age 65, not 67 or 70, after all, they have been the backbone of this country for all those years, working hard and paying taxes, now they reef the reward.....a stingy pension paid for by the government, that's the least they can and should expect.

I'd be interested in the demographics of the pensioner rally and how many of them started their own small businesses, risked their own capital and employed people.
It would be my suspicion that most of the rent a crowd have never risked or created or innovated in their lives.
Angry, selfish people usually aren't made of the right material to be successful in the challenging area of small business. More "sheeple" like , answering the rallying calls of the socialist anarchists with megaphones.

Well said Dame Pansi, as usual you are right again.  What a ridiculous idea it is, expecting people to work until they are 70 years old.  The Abbott government stinks.      Sad

You should see it as a challenge crook. Think how magnificent it will feel to still be contributing as others fall away.
How much better it is to be a lifter, then to be a leaner .
Make your grandchildren proud. Save the money and give them a house deposit.
Build a "legacy' for the Crook family.
Or stay home and enjoy daytime soaps and get fat  Wink Wink

I  know its hard to believe, but not everyone wants to work till they drop.  There are still some people, that want to be able to have their retirement.      Sad

If someone has worked hard, paid their bills and taxes, raised a family, encouraged and helped their kids to get a good education they have contributed quite enough!

Retirement is over rated . Whats wrong with working til you drop.
is laziness and sloth really the "end-game", the "goal" you are working towards.
Same as this atrocious idea of "spending the kids inheritance"
I love my kids and i'll make damn sure I buy each of them a house out of my estate and i'm working towards having money to buy the future grandkids a house.
This is a legacy to be proud of.
I don't want my kids to see some angry old coot marching for "more goodies' while my kids face record HECS and record mortgages.
That is just the wrong message to send. It smacks of greed and selfishness
