he won't be challenged yet .... they'll keep him in play until after the next budget next year, and if his numbers don't improve they will then get rid of him ... it's way to early yet.

I concur. It's only been one round of polls so far. Sustained bad polling will be needed before a change of leader is considered.

It will be on the cards though. Abbott's denials are meaningless.

Changing leaders in the first term has happened Federally as well as in NSW, Victoria and the Northern Territory in the past five years.

I agree with all that you say but go one step further and say, its time we demand a real democracy, a direct democracy. What's your reply?

Put ATM type machines all over the place

Allocate a PIN type number for everyone of voting age

All government proposals would be visible by scolling on the ATM type machines and online, etc.

The date proposed, by whom and the date when votes will conclude would be included within the information provided

Voters would be able to access the proposals 24/7

All proposals would be subject to majority Yay or Nay

Government would be merely the administrative arm of the People -- in other words, would be bean-counters, vote-tallyers

e.g. ' So and so has proposed purchase of twenty xyz fighter jets from Russia at a cost of $..... to be delivered in 12 months'.  Some might vote Yes.  Others, No.  Purchase would be dependent upon majority approval

e.g. ' So and so has proposed increasing politicians salaries by 26%, commencing July.  If approved, politicians would receive $X per year plus perks'.  Subject to majority approval

and so on

Under the current system, we are not asked, we are told.  Politicians are allocated portfolios in which they have no expertise.  Our lives are subject to influences whose identities are largely withheld from the paying public

I'm a great believer in Of the People, By the People, For the People.  Sure, it's hackneyed now, has been ground down to meaninglessness.  I also believe in majority rule - it works for the animal kingdom and we are, after all, a lower form of animal. And all empires which have catered to minorities have folded

There is no official name for my utopian scheme

At the moment the public service advises the govt but since Howard the public service has only provided advice that the government of the day wants to hear.  In a direct democracy the public service would advise the people with honest advice rather then ideologically loaded BS advice.  In a direct democracy there are no politicians to corrupt and any lobbying you do you had better do in the open to everyone because convincing a handful of people with a few "gifts" behind closed doors wont get you your way.   You call this utopian but that's not correct.  The Athenian democracy was a direct democracy.  They would have laughed at what we call democracy today.  And it was an extremely sophisticated democracy with lots of checks and balances and it was so successful that it built an empire and became the richest and most powerful country for over 200 years.

The Liberals have wedged themselves on leadership. If Abbott's poor performance continues, they will be damned if the do, damned if they don't.

The way to achieve dismissal of Abbott is to threaten LNP minions

They have most to lose and are most vulnerable.  You can't get through to Abbott, but getting through to your local MP is easy

For the sake of their own survival, LNP politicians must and will dump Abbott.  He can't hold them together.  The dirt's coming out daily with lots more to come.  He's a decided liability

As to Hockey, I think he's going to crack and run soon.  He's not used to being unpopular

i don't want to get rid of Abbott... i want him there come the next election so he can face the music .... changing leaders will just give the next lib a clean slate. In my opinion they are all in on it and all knew of the lies, to some extent,  beforehand.

Strange, one time you claimed to be objective.....

Nobody would have guessed you were rusted on Labor supporter though..... You hide it so well.

I can be objective and still enjoy watching Abbott self destruct, it's really not that difficult

Can people already broken afford to wait until the next election?

I'd prefer them not to have to suffer any more than they have to and to hell with revenge

Agree with you about 'they're all in it'.  Pretty sad state we're in, isn't it?

we don't have a choice .... getting rid of Abbott at this point merely changes the ringmaster, the show will still be the same 3 ring circus .. the only time we get to change the show will be when the next election falls due ... the best we can hope for is that labor, greens and Palmer hold supply and force Abbott to a DD .... I'm not holding my breath but fingers crossed

If you know of any way to implement this direct democracy, I'd like to know too

But until you show me otherwise, I'm afraid I'll have to continue seeing it as utopian, much as I'd like to be proven wrong

You only ever vote for one party despite the fact they may have policies you hate.

Today I switched my vote from the Conservative party because of policy.

Thats what you call voting on policy and principle and not being a sheep/lemming.
