The question is that of how do we best minimise the effects on the human polulation of past and current fossil fuel combustion, cement production and tropical forest clearing.

Ignoring it is not one of the options open to us.

That's not the question that needs answering in my book... in my book it's how we get off the fossil fooled train pronto!
