What a complete idiot this Cosgrove is for believing that.
Anybody with a modicum of intelligence and commonsense knew that by going into Iraq we were beating the hornets nest and could expect retribution here in Australia as the Spanish did in Madrid.
Cosgrove knew full well at the time he made this idiotic statement that our military personnel had been told not to wear their uniforms out in the public arena because there had been reported instances in which our uniformed soldiers had copped abuse and threats from members of the Muslim community.
I remember at the time how this was front page headline news, and how Talkback radio went into overdrive as a result of it.
The man's an ass.
