Woman killed by train at Brisbane level crossing

A woman has been killed by a train at a station in Brisbane’s south. Sad

The woman, believed to be aged in her early 20s, was struck by a train at the Barrack Road level crossing at Cannon Hill station about 6.45am on Friday.

Police said initial investigations suggested the woman darted across the tracks to meet a train.

Trains on the Cleveland line have been suspended in both directions between Murarrie and Park Road stations and commuters have been warned of delays of up to 60 minutes.

Buses are replacing trains between these stations, although travellers are encouraged to use alternate bus services.

Investigations are continuing.

So once again I say you can't legislate for idiots.

The generally hostile attitude to this poor woman by the posters on this BBS from both sides of the political spectrum is appalling.

Who knows what caused this poor woman to make such a terrible mistake.

Everyone is fighting their demons at some time in their lives and at times like this some may become distraught and lose focus of the dangers around them.

It was a terrible and sad death which doesn't deserve the scorn hailed down on the poor woman.

Not so much hostile, as nonchalance ....

how many people have tried to beat the trains and died? and yet they keep trying ... sorry, but if you are stupid enough to run in front of a train, you don't deserve any sympathy ... i feel sorry for her family, for what she has now put them through, but not her .. lets face it, it was a train, she wouldn't have felt a thing.

not sure how you can mistakenly bypass the barriers and run in front of a train, made even worse by the fact that there isn't a single pedestrian crossing in the country that doesn't post signs telling you not to do it, and the fact that it's illegal. She may have thought she had her reasons, but she was wrong and stupid for trying. ... there was no mistake, her actions were deliberate.

I feel more sorry for the train driver that has to live with the result of her actions.

A woman killed by an express train had walked around boom gates and into its path, Queensland police say.
It is believed that the woman was running late for a different train that had stopped at Cannon Hill station, in Brisbane's east, and didn't see the express service coming when she walked on to the track.
Inspector Joe Jaramazovic says investigations indicate that the woman walked around the traffic barriers in Barrack Road, near the station, after she unsuccessfully tried to push open a pedestrian gate just before 7am on Friday.
