Well - I say again - my tomatoes that are normally ripening in December are still green....
I tend to trust plants, birds and animals before I trust paid scientists.. and the average here has been lower... though winter was warmer due to more cloud cover. Same reason as summer is cooler - drought broken, more cloud cover and more rainy days.....
Simple... altogether a relatively mild year 2013.. we had two frosts - a far cry from the -8 frosts of 2003.... in the middle of the drought....
Cloud cover.. cloud cover...... mind you it's more humid than normal....
Finally, someone in touch with the environment and with some common sense !!!!
Approx. 5 years ago when drought like conditions broke and se started getting good rains again I noticed that 100s of crows flew into our area just before winter... we had great soaking rains that year ...
I reported my findings on another forum and have done in following years...
Earlier this year when Victorian farmers started to panic and wanted drought assistance off the government when rain didn't come in exactly on time... I noted that the crows were a month late coming into my area this year... sure enough, the rain came, but a month later than usual ...
Talking with some old folk about this up country a bit... they say that when they start getting sightings of black cockatoos rain will follow ...
They say that the cockatoos are heading to the mountains ...
Yes - the Black Cockies are fabulous - got a family of about eleven now - used to be 2-3. They stop by to eat from our hakea trees... been very common lately.
The swallows in the outdoor toilet have also settled in for a new hatch - meaning it won't get too hot in there.
Bluey the Tongue in the pipe outside is still in place, though - means not heavy rain.. just a sprinkle today with a tiny patch occasionally, and the frogs aren't even interested.... even Paycheck who comes in late since he lives in the shed drain pipe and doesn't understand it's wet until water is running has been quiet, and Brak has been pretty quiet.
Oh, and the climbing beans are a bit late, as are the potatoes... nope - a relatively cool summer here, I think and maybe a warm winter again.
