Hottest year on record
Jan 3rd, 2014 at 9:04am

Australia has just sweltered through its hottest year on record, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Average temperatures were 1.20 degrees Celsius above the long-term average of 21.8C, breaking the previous record set in 2005 by 0.17C, the bureau said in its Annual Climate Statement.

All states and territories recorded above average temperatures in 2013, with Western Australia, Northern Territory and South Australia all breaking annual average temperature records.

The country recorded its hottest day on January 7, as well as the hottest week and hottest month on record.

Meanwhile, extreme conditions have persisted into the first days of 2014, with soaring temperatures in areas extending from Queensland's interior to Central Australia, northern South Australia and north-western New South Wales.

This proves the we are in a global cooling cycle.

Since January 2013, Australia's temperatures has cooled.

We are saved, and we have Tony Abbott and his removal of the evil carbon tax to thank.

Congratulations to all the deniers who for year valiantly exposed the biggest conspiracy the world has ever seen. Your faith, and belief in God, won over those dirty communists.

2011 was the wettest on record; it's a bit dry now though...

Such an unbelievably short period of time, that I can't believe anyone is even mentioning it.

Seriously people, get some perspective.

Amazing how many “hottest ever. . .” records continue to be broken.

Imagine what it’d be like if we had global warming!

Yes in geological terms 104 years is but a blink of an eye.

How long should we maintain records before using the data Greg?

I'd like to know where all of these record high temperatures were because they were certainly weren't in my area and I live in part of Australia...

over the past 6 months (Victoria) I'd have to say its been below average as far as temperatures go... and a bit higher in rain fall compared to recent years...

100 years ago—they had thermometers then too!

Last 1000 years—we know of temperature extremes

Prehistorical—ice cores, tree rings, fossil evidence etc.

I thought the anti science mob were saying we were not heating.

Time for nuclear power … although this technology is not suited to a global heating world unless we ignore the environmental damage it causes.

Any chance you might address my question Greg?

How long before we can use the collected data?

How long have we been collecting Lung Cancer data?

Mid 50's?

Why is that ok to use re smoking yet 104 years is too short

Ah yes, your victorian beach side town, the last standout to global warming and rising sea levels.
