Yes, it's the weather. Just a few data points contributing to the total.

It's just as wrong to point to a few hot days and assert "global warming" as it is to point to a few cold days and assert "not global warming".

I think the Church of Climate Change Hysteria

With that kind of name calling the rest of your argument is unlikely to be objective.

To be fair, I do not think much of the argument that you're responding to either, for the same reason.

Quote:
are equally as guilty of blindly following and not appreciating underhand forces at place.

Last year at the American Oil Producer Conference there was an interesting set of slides shown to the audience.

That's not a gathering that's likely to be objective.

Quote:
75% of the scientists proclaiming doomsday messages about human made climate impact are significant investors in projects which directly benefit from hysterical messages of change.

And what are the oil producers doing? Sitting calmly doing knitting? Not a chance. The fossil fuel industry are the financial backers of the climate denial industry. What hypocrisy.

Quote:
In Wall St, if you give out messages which deliberately entice investment and benefit companies in which you are investors, you go to jail.
It's called "stacking the deck".

The oil industry are not innocent of this.

Quote:
Think - Invest in alternative energy project + Give out deliberately alarmist message on climate change = Increased return and investment in your project.

Think - your product is shown to be doing harm + lots of money = sly investment in "think tanks" that deliberately obfuscate.

It happened with the tobacco industry. It's happening now with the fossil fuel industry.

Quote:
If we in the traditional energy sector do the same thing, we are hung out to dry.

Firstly, who is "we"? What are your links to the "traditional energy sector"?

Secondly, that's not true. They are doing this and getting away with it.

Just 90 companies caused two-thirds of man-made global warming emissions
Quote:
The climate crisis of the 21st century has been caused largely by just 90 companies, which between them produced nearly two-thirds of the greenhouse gas emissions generated since the dawning of the industrial age, new research suggests.

Quote:
All but seven of the 90 were energy companies producing oil, gas and coal. The remaining seven were cement manufacturers.

Quote:
Oreskes ... noted that several of the top companies on the list had funded the climate denial movement.

"For me one of the most interesting things to think about was the overlap of large scale producers and the funding of disinformation campaigns, and how that has delayed action," she said.

IPCC report: sceptic groups launch global anti-science campaign
Quote:
Conservative groups at the forefront of global warming skepticism are doubling down on trying to discredit the next big report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In recent weeks, they've been cranking out a stream of op-eds, blogs and reports to sow doubt in the public's mind before the report is published, with no end in sight.

Quote:
The report is the latest in the Heartland Institute's "Climate Change Reconsidered" series and the cornerstone of its campaign against the IPCC's fifth assessment. Heartland is aggressively pushing the report in op-eds, blogs and in articles in conservative newspapers and news stations. Among others, it has received coverage in the Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph, The Washington Times and the UK's Daily Mail, in an article that had to be "significantly" changed due to errors.

Other groups participating in the report include the Science & Environmental Policy Project, a research and advocacy group founded by climate skeptic Fred Singer—who is also the director of Heartland's Science and Environmental Policy Project—and the Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change, an Arizona-based climate skeptic group partly funded by ExxonMobil.

That is a non sequitur. I asked you a simple question and you come to this idiotic conclusion?

Seems you don't mind subjecting other people's views to scrutiny, but at the slightest bit of scrutiny of your views, you descend very quickly to name-calling and fallacies.

I'm finding it rather odd that you argue against climate change, yet claim such ignorance of such a simple concept. It does not bode well for any knowledgeable posts from you on this topic if you struggle with the mathematical concept of "many".

The world has thousands of weather stations and they provide measurements several times a day over years. By aggregating all these measurements can we get an idea of the global climate.

Yet, you completely ignore the probability that AGW may not be real.

You confuse probability and possibility. All things are possible; including that the vast majority of the best qualified and every organisation of reputable scientists is wrong.

As I said, mine is a world of probabilities. What evidence can you present to support your contention that the probability that they're wrong* is higher than the probability that they're right*?

* Crude binary, pandering to your limited Conservative mind.

Nope, no confusion.

And, as I said, yours is not a world of probabilities: yours is a world of closed-minded, blind faith.
It looks to me like you're the one with the blind faith. You are a church-goer, aren't you, greggerypeccary?

So outline your understanding of the difference between possibility and probability.

You say there's a probability that AGW is not real. So what is that probability?

What is the probability that the vast majority of the best qualified and every organisation of reputable scientists is wrong*? How does it compare with the probability that they're right*?

Present your evidence.

* Crude binary, pandering to your limited Conservative mind.
No evidence then, greggerypeccary?
Still evading, greggerypeccary? That's a form of lying, you know?

Not to worry, I'll try to answer on your behalf. If you're honest, then you'll correct any mistakes I make. Of course, remaining silent confirms my answers.

greggerypeccary wrote on Jan 4th, 2014 at 11:32am:

That's actually truth, of a sort. Pretending to confuse probability and possibility was a lie. You knew exactly what you were doing.

# wrote on Jan 4th, 2014 at 10:57am:

If memory serves, you once said to me that you have "no scientific faith". Those words imply that your behaviour stems from some other faith.

One of the Abrahamic religions, I guess. Perhaps a fringe cult, given the peculiarities of greggerypeccary.

His inability to present evidence shows that, at best, greggerypeccary merely has faith that global warming is not anthropogenic. Of course, he could be lying. With greggerypeccary, that's always a distinct possibility.

You see, greggerypeccary has given no cause to suppose that he really believes a word he says. That would explain why he's so equivocal. It's possible that he just posts whatever will provoke a reaction for his amusement. That is; greggerypeccary might be no more than a troll.

So; liar, deluded, thug, troll; let the reader decide which terms describe greggerypeccary.
