You can share the load around on the demerit points or have overseas licence holders take the points - Australia cannot put points on a foreign designated driver.

I have had a total of 10 points unable to be put on my license by the state of Victoria because it wasn't Australian.

You just need to play the rulebook a little.

Well - you did say Townsville.... and jeez - a cop following and then pulling someone over for 1 km over the limit is insane.

It would appear that the cop concerned - and not for the first time - had a 'problem' with the accused.

It's called, officially, 'pro-active policing'!  Get 'em BEFORE they do something wrong and they will then be ripe for punishment and then suffer more IF we ever catch them for a REAL offence!

Give 'em a ' record' and then when they say - "Yer 'Onnah!  These guys beat me up!  I never laid a hand on 'em!"  - the Guv says ye must be a bastard since they copped you once doing 1 km over the limit....

I can see it now - young c*nt, smart-arse, 'I know you lad!' attitude... easy money when the driver is a young male - the most vilified demographic because fifteen or so a year have major accidents.... guilt by accusation - next time he's pissed off at being treated like a scum or a (gasps) Black - and it's a 'criminal offence' of 'resisting arrest' or 'assaulting police'.

Just a story of a brave cop saving the world - protecting the Australian universe from the scum of the universe - by ensuring that this young and obviously out-of-control irresponsible prick is taken off the roads for the good of society!

Ahhhh - the Thin Blue Line - maybe the Thick Blue Line sometimes!

BEHOLD THE FUTURE FOR US ALL!

(once you've seen and/or been through the Stargate - nothing is as it seems, and all is possible)..

I can guarantee everyone breaks the law in some way every single day.

Yes, and if they get caught they have to face the consequences.

You would be the first to start bleating  if you got fined for every minor transgression you made. No one is a perfect driver, the fact is that speed is an easy revenue raiser, fining motorists for other offences which are committed constantly isn't. And fining someone for driving on a freeway going a few k's over the limit doesn't make one iota of difference to the road toll or road safety in general. If it really was about road safety the radars would be random, suburban streets, etc., not placed where they pick up the greatest amount of motorists in the shortest time. and this idiot copper wasting everyones time for what he says is 1 k over the limit should be out doing his job where it really counts.

Well, that's all different now, to be doing a job where it really counts....these newly recruited policemen and policewomen are told to ignore any street problems, such as a someone drunk in the gutter or needing help, because there is no money in that......

So much for "serve and protect"  Sad

Same mentality for parking inspectors....they have a criteria to meet and the pressure is on. There was one that left the job and told it like it was to a current affair programme.
And they hope to fine a few 'unsuspecting' young, old or maybe those that are not very good with english.

Here is a sucess story for ya's.
My daughter used to work in the city, in a night club, then would park her car in a proper car park, where it is private, with no signage of any such restrictions for parking.

When she knocked off from work one early morning about 2am....lo and behold, she had a parking ticket on her windscreen!

She took photos of the parking lot and her car, and went to refute the ticket. How ridiculous, and 1 km over the limit, what a waste of tax payers money being so petty and nit picking. No common sense in this situation at all!

And quite honestly, I don't consider myself a law breaker and do obey the speed restriction signs, to the best of my ability. I can't be continually taking my eyes off the road to see what the speedomoter is doing, that would be as bad as reading text messages on the mobile phone.

Where I live, is hilly terrain, and very difficult to keep a constant say, 60 or 70 kph.

We have some stretches of well made roads that are safe, (green wedge areas between townships) and have never had any black spot accidents, never, yet, the speed limit has been lowered from 70 to 60 kph.
Why????
It's the questionable thing that's on all the local's minds.

I queston the motives for that.

Hear.. HEAR!

Lols - remember that your local and State government are 'doing it tough' and they NEED your money and your daughter's money for nothing.

Fer god's sake -- they (and Tony and co) have a BUDGET to meet! Have a little consideration!!

Just man up and pay your taxes, legit or not!

Can I play it at my Film Festival here? I'm serious....

There are road safety "experts" in the government that are getting paid $3000 a week to provide road safety, they have finally run out of ideas and implementing idiotic speed limits on open roads is all they have left unfortunately,  the gooberment doesn't care as they will just line the road with speed revenue cameras and cash in.

Ummm- yes - the 'foreign licence' thing...

Starting with the very real plight of the local lad/lass in dealing with the 'forces of law' and all that entails... the background (sort of the Deer Hunter steel mill always in the background) is the endemic poverty and despair and desperation....

Damn - leads to kids being killed - tiny kids -- no names but you know what I mean.. (Jayden Leskie.. fer chris'sake)...

that's the background..

Then you have the rorter - the man with a 'roof' of 'mafia cover' (sort of like  Dog Day Afternoon - where Al Pacino tells Sam he has 'maf cover' for a job (wait for it) when they 'do' a bank that was run by a *gasps* woman who rejected Al for a job when he was qualified before she was).....

(yaaarg - HELLO!)...

Ya gotta establish the background with images - then put your characters to work making something out of it... and the end result MUST be a Greek tragedy....

No matter how much the characters try, try, try... they lose.... and the final solution is a devastation for all - plus the society in which they live.....

Taxi Driver.. .. I'm workin' long hours now.....

How can you relate that to 'A Cold day In Dandenong'?  Or whatever you wish to call it...

I was thinking more the uppercrust business owners son, doing the run from the wealth he had been taught was his birthright and the only thing that mattered was money. A Bhudda like transformation, involving skids in the Dandenongs.

Exactly.

People just don't seem to understand what the word "limit" means.

Hey Greg - They're only 95-100% sure that a given motorist is speeding. So the science isn't settled. It's just a theory.

It's actually part of a global conspiracy by police to slow down our economic recovery.

If you break down the motion into infinitesimally small segments until you get to the Planck length (1.616199(97)×10^−35 metres), you can't measure position and momentum at the same time anyway.

How can we be sure that time progresses at a constant rate anyway? I mean so far nobody has found any evidence for such variation, but absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

It could also have been a gravitational anomaly that caused the car to appear to be moving slightly faster from the frame of reference of the policeman.

The science is not settled. It's just a theory.
