And who gets to determine what's "short term" and "long term"?  Humans.

Well it's actually aardvarks.  Roll Eyes

Who other than humans would define a term?

Exactly.  Now you're starting to see.

30 years out of 4.5 billion years is not "long term", by any stretch of the imagination.  Agreed?

Soren, this may come as a surprise to you, but it's not unusual for ships to get caught in sea ice.

Please feel free to correct my perception of your argument, but from where I stand, it's not much of an argument at all.

It might be hot as hell right now, but there might be something in that Kool aid that you're drinking that severely affects your judgement. All you seem to have is an amazing collection of strawmen and totally wrong assumptions.

Not at all.

You couldn't make this up: Antarctic climate scientist, with all the models, science, equipment, data and technology and expertise at his disposal - gets stuck in the ice.  Hilarious and a massive credibility killer.

Pray tell me how a climate model that shows a temperature increase of 0.4 degrees per decade could possibly help in out in such a circumstance?

It's a little bit like using this map to navigate the London Underground.

Har har har. He's got a map that covers the whole world but gets lost in the London Underground.

If one is a supposed expert on the London underground (Antarctic climate) and takes a school globe as a guide when re-tracing someone's route (Mawson's) in the London underground (Antarctica) after a hundred years and he gets lost (trapped in ice) - it just hows how idiotic and unknowing said 'expert' is.

Hilarious.

Comparing the Earth in the Cainozoic with the Earth during the Paleozoic era is hardly relevent. It was like an entirely  different planet.

As I implied, you have seriously lost the plot.

It's all about the common use of the term "long term" in any given context. Google "long term benefits". Are you saying that if I exercise, it will take 4.5 billion years to see any long term benefits?

The context here is planet earth.

4.5 billion years old.

If that's your context, then it's a totally irrelevent context.  The changing climate of Australia for example doesn't have a 4.5 billion year context.
