So over this festive season I've read report Australians have spent 29.6 Billion $$$ on gifts

Another 1.9 billion $$$ on boxing day sales

And although I cannot find a link have heard we also spent 11 billion $$$ on Christmas Food

Totaling 42.5 Billion $$$

That's $1847.82 for each of our 23 million citizens.

So in 2014 I don't want to read here or in any newspaper, hear any mealy mouthed pollie cry that Australians are struggling with the cost of living, cannot afford a few measly $$ to fund the NDIS or that the Carbon Tax is forcing the large majority to freeze in Winter, that families need the compensation to remain if the tax is repealed.

BECAUSE FRANKLY IT'S BULLSH!T Angry

It's obviously not how much Australians bring home but what they choose to spend it on.

Time for a very large proportion of our populace to get some tough love & re-prioritize their spending.

I have spent more over the last week but only because we have two sons back for christmas, maybe an extra 200 with food/beer etc. If I only spent an extra 200, some people have a lot of money to waste if that is the average. No COL problems for some.

So true Crowbait.... I haven't been able to buy anything decent for over 3 years now... too busy saving up to pay utility bills.

You should have tried harder and got yourself a better education so you could get a reasonable job then, most do not have to save for three years to pay bills. It is not our fault you did not make a better life for yourself.

It's not unusual for chinese students to get a brand new BMW for christmas. By the looks of it, they also do the bulk of the spending at the boxing day sales too.

Also, how the bugger do they calculate 11 billion on "christmas food". Wonder how that compares to any other period, since we have to eat all year round.
