That's $1847.82 for each of our 23 million citizens.

So in 2014 I don't want to read here or in any newspaper, hear any mealy mouthed pollie cry that Australians are struggling with the cost of living, cannot afford a few measly $$ to fund the NDIS or that the Carbon Tax is forcing the large majority to freeze in Winter, that families need the compensation to remain if the tax is repealed.

BECAUSE FRANKLY IT'S BULLSH!T Angry

It's obviously not how much Australians bring home but what they choose to spend it on.

Time for a very large proportion of our populace to get some tough love & re-prioritize their spending.


I guess you don't put $5 or $10 a week away in a Christmas account at the bank to save up for buying presents, food, etc over the holidays? Most do, especially low income earners and it leaves them with precious little to live off each week. Think before posting, eh?



And if you had the slightest ounce of comprehension you'd understand my post had nothing to do with low income earners but those singles on 80K+ ,and families on 120K+, with the 400K+ mortgage and 2 cars,boat Iphones/pads and designers handbags and clothes.

But hey believe your tax $$ should go to them if you wish.

You know that won't happen.  They'll cry poor and claim they'll need to cut jobs.  And then spend millions on ad campaigns and we will be right back where we started.  Apparently markets should be left to their own devices as long as government subsidies them.

This is why governments should NEVER subsidise private industry,  all that happens is artificial influx and their subsidies get sucked up into extra profit that companies become accustomed to.  But hey, Howard was terrific.

Well - all I have to say about that is this...

Let them leaders show us the way by tightening their belts first.. otherwise.. as they say down in Green Bow.. it ain't nothing but a pile o' horse manure dressed up as Sunday dinner... and jus' cause there's a lot o' turkey around don't mean it's gonna make a good meal.

An' I have to say that the man above me is 100% correct.  Never subsidise business- if they can't make a profit they are in the wrong game...

My electricity bills have remain unchanged for a couple of years now. You should have signed up to one of the deals the electricity co's were offering. I got a 17% discount for two years and became a little more diligent with my power usage.

The electricity suppliers have suggested that when the carbon tax goes - our bills might not be reduced. If you're unemployed or on a low income - the previous government was subsidising you for the increase. This won't continue - so when the tax is repealed, you'll be a lot worse off.

Watching the news report on the boxing day sales, my attention was caught by a couple of 20-somethings gleefully telling the reporter that they were there to max their cards out and would probably spend around $3000 on clothes & makeup.

My first thought was - geez girls, have a thought about next year.
My next thought was - go for it darlings, whatever you spend it on I'll probably make a few bucks from it on the stockmarket.

If most people can piss away $3000 on frivolous stuff like this, it's difficult to defend the proposition that Australians cannot afford an increase to taxes to get the budget back in balance.


the assumption that there is even a connection is ridiculous.  just as is the silly assumption that they are typical.  and even worse is the typical left-wing viewpoint that if people have money to waste then it should be taken off them so that he govt can waste it instead.

In fact I'm here more often than not arguing for those at the bottom to be given a fair go.

However most of our liberal posters seem to think a family on 200K need assistance with Private health, Child care etc.

I don't have a problem with that as long as the largesse for everyone else is severely curtailed as well.  cut welfare dramatically, period.  then cut income taxes etc in response and watch the economy take a rise as spending increases on the back of extra income.

I raised 4 kids on the back of next to no govt welfare and they didn't suffer.



There's a difference between wealthfare and welfare.  Remove all wealth fare.  Then start to cut taxes from bottom up when circumstances allow it.

the problem with that is that you assume there are no consequences to that.  Just as Rudd in his well-intentioned stupidity assumed that changing the FBT rules would simply raise money and not affect sales or the leasing industry or damage the car industry.

that's the problem with the 'bright ideas' on here- that they assume nothing will be affected.

nice principle as long as EVERYONE does it.  but they don't.  and sometimes by not subsidising all you do is end up with no industry at all.  not exactly a success.

that's why you need a Costello type in parliament.  when the state govts were refusing to cut state taxes as promised for the GST, he threatened them with cuts to the GST and then some.  Jockey needs to do the same to power companies.  when the carbon tax comes off the prices need to be reduced or else he will penalise them in some other fashion.  He has the power of the position as well as the power of being right.  Use it.

I agree with the first part, re: misinterpreting posts, although I would suggest that it goes much further than posts - and whilst it might relate to IQ (the laughable intelligence measuring scale) and poor education, it simply boils down to blatant lack of comprehension (either deliberate or learned).

Oh, and you and many of your ideological mates also are well qualified, demonstrably, for that list of people.
