Lets face it..only traitors to this country would defend being subservient to a foreign monarchy while saluting a flag with the UK flag flying in the corner.
The English flag doesn't have the union jack anywhere on it so why does the Australian flag pay homage to our invaders and oppressors?
You are either an Australian Republican and a patriot or a sniveling british monarchist and a traitor..there is no in between.

There is an in between. There's people like me who support our constitutional monarchy because it pisses of "progressives".

Wow how absolutely lame.  So your opinions are based on whether it pusses off someone else?  Very lame. What happened to the well educated misty persona?  Sad

If it annoys so many "progressives" there must be something good about it. It's almost an iron law.

Nuclear bombs annoy progressives.  You want to see them exploded?

Chemical weapons annoy progressives.  Let's release them?

Price rises annoy progressives,  rise rise rise?

Wages decreases annoy progressives,  decrease them?

It's better to have your own valid opinion, rather than parrot something so stupid.  You were better than that mist.

And I would've thought that a scholar of history, as you have tried to portray yourself as, would side with me when it comes to the old aristocracies.

Most people find those things annoying. It's when the "progressives" exclusively whinge about something.

It seems progressives are the only ones who whinge about those things.  Conservatives tend to not care unless it happens within the physical line of sight.  Only then it becomes bad or an important issue.

Peter Cosgrove has been cited as a future GG for a decade or more.

John Howard has stated that he does NOT want the job.

As far as Australia becoming a Republic is concerned, we got to vote on that, way back in a Referendum, that failed.  I actually voted YES to becoming a Republic, but I think that IF we do become a Republic, we Aussies want to vote for our President, not have the position filled by some pollie. We either have a President or a Prime Minister ... NOT both. What would be the point? Howard's idea was dead wrong and the reason he did that was because he doesn't want Australia to ditch the Monarchy.  I think the Monarchy is a Pom thing and we don't need it here.  Wink

Why not just replace the Queen and the GG with a President (or any other name you want to call them), appointed by parliament.

We've never voted for our monarch or GG.

Because becoming a REPUBLIC is just not changing the names and titles in Australia's Constitution.

We don't actually vote for the Prime Minister, either, remember?

We do NOT need a Prime Minister and a President ... i.e. calling the GG a President, won't work. If we ever become a Republic, the entire system has to change.

Actually he is a decent bloke and like previous military personnel in this post, he will in all likelihood do an exceptional job.

But your purile and vile opinion has been allowed to be expressed because of people like him giving you that priveledge.

I am begining to hate this country and its people a little more each time listen to the peices of sh1t in it express their heart felt opions.  Angry

Santa not come to see you, Mate?

Smiley

Just sick of deadsh1ts who feel the absolute need to express their deadsh1t opinions on subjects they know less than fck all about.

But it is your priveledge to do so, thanks to those like Cosgrove who served to protect your right to express your opinion.

How does throwing away a stable sysrtem of government for an unknown system of government, benefit us, exactly.

And please don'ta say it is just a name change, because only a total moron would believe that, but then again if that is your argument, I suppose that is all you have.

If there is no benefit, what is the point.

And having a whiney bunch of p1ss ant socialist feel better aboput themselves in not a benefit.

I couldn't get the ARM to give me one solid benefit for the country, I doubt you bunch of einsteins are going to have much to contribute; you haven't so far from what I have read.  Grin

Aussie obviously has no respect for men who went to War.  Cosgrove would be a good GG. Other military persons have done the job previously.  The position needs someone with decorum and the ability to have a stiff upper lip while shaking hands with all sorts and still looking like you are enjoying it.  It is NOT a fashion post.
