So what did we actually do in Afghanistan?
They made it safer for it's people and planted the seeds for a better future. Schools were built and other infrastructure was built. Educational programs, medical programs, new ideas, political stability, female rights etc etc. Whoever says they did nothing has no idea. The problem will be that the good that was done will be undone by the Taliban and put back into the stone age.

Yeas exactly.    And what did we achieve beyond 'tomorrow' for the locals?

You have already answered my question.  Ta.
Some of it might stick. I supposed at least they tried. The problem there is religion. Most Afghan's won't follow anybody that isn't a Muslim. I suppose I wouldn't follow any army that came waltzing into my country, especially Christian. It's a pity because the Taliban has obviously nothing to offer but death and sadness.

Poor Sparky, at least she meant well..

What's the prob Winston with a Y.

Don't know why they went to all that trouble when they could have just used a couple of nuclear bombs and be done with it.

They did a great job. It's just a pity more people didn't get behind them. Afghanistan could of been turned into a decent place to live.

Only the US, the UK and their little brother Australia did what they said they would never do

CUT AND RUN

well it might not mean that much to someone like yourself.. but..

"Oruzgan today is a very significantly different and better place than it was a decade ago," he said.

its worth a try at least..

at least we try to make a place BETTER.. not for ourselves.. for those that live there..under extreme endurance and fear..

I hope we give the Afghan boys a really great welcome home boys..

and the boys that didnt make it..you wont be forgotten.. Cry

Yeah, yeah cods as if there wasn't enough lying around this war you still persist with that old cr@p about us going there to help the people of Afghanistan.  If that's true why are we leaving.  You say the place is a lot better off. Bullcr@p. On whose assessment?  Its like Abbott giving himself a report card after the first 100 days of government.  Let me guess he gave himself a high distinction.  I don't think anyone really doubts that Afghanistan will fall again to the Taliban within a short time, so whatever gloss you try and put on it were cutting and running.  So why did so many Australian's have to die to get to this point.  Howard and Downer were told over and over that this was going to happen and they insisted that it would not because Australia would never cut and run.   And now that we are cutting and running what do they and you and all their minions say.  "Oh no don't bring up politics, its disrespectful to our returning soldiers.  What!!!! If you had any respect for those who needlessly lost their lives and suffered in Afghanistan you would shout out from the highest heights against those who lied, deceived and manipulated to unnecessarily put them there in the first place.

PRIME Minister Tony Abbott says the last Australian soldier has left Oruzgan Province in Afghanistan.

Canberra Defence Minister David Johnston said the last troops left Oruzgan yesterday.

"They are in the air on the way home,'' he told reporters in Sydney.

Mr Abbott thanked the soldiers for their service, saying they had paid a high price with 40 dead and 261 seriously wounded.

"Oruzgan today is a very significantly different and better place than it was a decade ago," he said.

Gillard to bring troops home early - opposed by Coalition parties

Tue 17 Apr 2012

The Federal Opposition has questioned Prime Minister Julia Gillard's motives as she prepares to announce that most Australian soldiers will be pulled out of Afghanistan before the next election.

In a speech to be delivered to the Australian Strategic Policy Institute this lunchtime, Ms Gillard will lay out plans to pull troops out of Afghanistan a year earlier than originally planned.

Troops could start leaving as early as this year, with
most troops home by the end of 2013.

A 2013 pull-out date will be a year in advance of the 2014 deadline previously laid down by NATO-led international forces

I'm happy to leave 'the politics' right here.  Abbott cannot claim credit for this event, and stuffed if anyone ought allow him to.  If cods reckons he legitimately can, then she should also blame Abbott for the current deficit.

Our departure from Afghanistan was decided long ago, and the logistics of that have been in progress prior to the last election.

bugger off Phoney.  This has zero to do with you.

So it looks like the Americans authorised both Gillard and Abbott to let us pull out our troops early.  All you righties might want to think about that next time the neocon propagandists fire you up about the UN trying to interfered with our soverignty.

Australia, Great Britain and others are pulling out because the US President is cutting and running. They have wasted thousands of young lives and for what.....the Taliban will be back were they were before the coalition of the willing went into Afghanistan.

Yes well done to all the troops from all the nations who fought the good fight, they deserved better than leaving the job unfinished.

They were put there strategically for a planned 3rd world war, but the false flag pretexts all fell through. The West might have just missed its final opportunity for a military solution to its decline. That is pretty much what is at stake here, we needed to strike to stay militarily relevant.
