CUT AND RUN

well it might not mean that much to someone like yourself.. but..

"Oruzgan today is a very significantly different and better place than it was a decade ago," he said.

its worth a try at least..

at least we try to make a place BETTER.. not for ourselves.. for those that live there..under extreme endurance and fear..

I hope we give the Afghan boys a really great welcome home boys..

and the boys that didnt make it..you wont be forgotten.. Cry

cods, this blubber would make every digger I know cringe.  These 'boys' as you call them as if they were yours, have been there more than once........most of them have, and they have had a 'welcome home' after every rotation.

We did not go there to make it a better place. We went there because Uncle Sam did.  All we did (that which will last more than a couple of years) was make 'big rocks into little rocks.'  Yeas, we did indeed build a few useful bits of infrastructure, and we did indeed assist maintain the longest dirt runway in the World.............but puhlease, let's not take it much further than that.

It was us playing Coyboys and Indians, except in this case, the Indians beat us off.

We had zero military goal ~ no-one was there to seek a territorial advantage ~ we were there to poke because our big Mate also wanted to do that because two of his big buildings came to grief, and there is no credible link between Afghanistan and those events.

But, I'm glad we are out............to the extent we truly are.

I'll take that as rhetorical question, not directed at me.

True enough alevine, but I'll bet pounds to peanuts that the ADF is still there.  We just will not hear about it anymore.

Why did we go there?

"To make big rocks into little rocks."

Thanks Hayseed.

I doubt it, I'd say US private armies such as Blackwater got those contracts.

They made it safer for it's people and planted the seeds for a better future. Schools were built and other infrastructure was built. Educational programs, medical programs, new ideas, political stability, female rights etc etc. Whoever says they did nothing has no idea. The problem will be that the good that was done will be undone by the Taliban and put back into the stone age.

Yeas exactly.    And what did we achieve beyond 'tomorrow' for the locals?

You have already answered my question.  Ta.

Some of it might stick. I supposed at least they tried. The problem there is religion. Most Afghan's won't follow anybody that isn't a Muslim. I suppose I wouldn't follow any army that came waltzing into my country, especially Christian. It's a pity because the Taliban has obviously nothing to offer but death and sadness.

Welcome back from a pointless war that we shouldn't have gotten into in the first place.

Never was any of our business.  Accept it as fact.   Afghanistan is where we and Russia before us 'practice' ground warfare in a barren land.
