The Carbon Tax Repeal Mandate
Oct 14th, 2013 at 9:17am

The biggest mistake Labor is making now is in its refusal to join with the Coalition and to repeal the hated Carbon tax. The last election was an effective referendum on the carbon tax and if repeated polls on the tppic were unconvincing, the flogging labor received has to be.

Similar to the embarrassing 'rollback the GST' policy which Labor took to 2 elections - and were roundly defeated - the carbon tax policy is electoral dead weight.  the people hate it and even more oppose the back-handed way in which it was implemented.  In short, it is electoral poison.  By opposing the Carbon Tax repeal, Labor is casting contempt at the clear wishes of the electorate and ensuring that in future elections they will carry this hugely unpopular albatross around their necks.  It is political folly.  The coalition dumped their own unwanted and un-mandated WorkChoices and are now back in government after just 6 years while Labor remains committed to a policy that will ensure its easy defeat in 2016.

The stupidity of Labor's decision is indicative of the dreadful political strategy that has plagued the ALP since 2007.  It spells bad news for True Believers who see ahead the possibility of multiple terms in opposition.

The Carbon Tax continues to weave its trail of destruction.  One party however stands resolutely in its path, closing its eyes to the oncoming storm.

Labor are not supporting a carbon tax, they are supporting a market driven carbon price.

A market driven carbon price is very good policy. By far the most effective means to reduce co2 emissions.

If Mr Abbott scraps the carbon tax by transitioning it to a ETS, the he will have Labors full support.

No carbon tax and no ETS is economic stupidity and has very little support in the public.

huh???  did the election result totally elude you?  the people DONT WANT A CARBONTAX OR ETS.  the point is moot anyhow.  if labor refuse to support the repeal it will only be repealed 6 months later anyhow.  They are skewering themselves to no avail.

We don't know what impossible conditions Palmer will put on anything. The man is a maverick.

he will oppose the carbon tax.  to do anything else would be a massive breach of promise and if it lead to a DD would destroy his party.

The last thing TA needs is a DD and it would be better if the words never passed his lips or those of any coalition member.

All polls that specifically asked whether you wanted a market driven approach to climate change came out heavily in favour of "yes".

It impossible to believe that Australia would be the first and only every country to undo carbon emissions legislation as the world gets hotter and hotter.

Abbott's opposition to a carbon tax was opportunistic at the time. Hopefully common sense will prevail now.

There was a mandate for the ETS and Abbott scuttled it so any talk of mandates by Abbott are nothing more than the rantings of a con man and liar.
In short...Abbott can shove his mandate up his Man Date and bring on a DD asap.

cods, I heard this morning that Fairfax is weeks away. There are about 40,000 votes that are being challenged.

Stand by for interesting times as Bill Shorten, a dog with fleas, tries to make himself look like a leader.

He is without doubt the worst possible choice. Now suddenly, he's there, El Supremo. This is the worst mistake I have ever seen Labor make, in all of the years I have been following politics. Shorten makes Rudd and Gillard look like angels in comparison.

Like I say, you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas...and Shorten is a dog, that is a lay down misere.

I just love the double standard from Longstupidone and his ilk

Labor wins an election promising an ETS but libs have a mandate to oppose it

Libs win an election promising to scrap the carbon tax and labor supposedly has a mandate to support them?

Wake up you clown!

Make up your mind ... previously Gillard was the worst choice, then Rudd, now Shorten ....

I bet if they put Jesus Christ as leader of the ALP you'd still fault him.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
