If LNP MPs have a mandate to abolish the carbon tax, then ALP MPs have a mandate to oppose that.  PUP's three Senators have a mandate to see the tax repealed back to day dot, with full refunds to all those who have paid it.

Why?  Because they all went to their electorates seeking votes on that basis.

How's those apples, melielongtime?

Aussie prediction:

Abbott will run it to the Senate once.  It will be rejected.  He will leave it there.  Why?  Well, he just refused to accept Bryce's resignation from the GG position, and if he intended to push for a DD prior to April, 2014, he would have accepted and saved her the embarrassment of having to make decisions concerning the conduct of her son-in-law.

In parallel, he will be working his arse off doing deals (those he said he would never do) to see if the post July 1 Senate will allow what he is willing to chew.

He will know that as soon as the PUP WA Senator position is finally declared, one way or the other.

If he knows that post July 1, all will be well, he'll wait until then.

If he learns that PUP will not dance to his tune, then*** I reckon he'll bung the legislation back to the Senate for the second time as soon as Bryce's replacement has his ample arse on the Throne.

Only then, if he wants a DD,*** will he bring it on.

But he won't.***  He stands to lose everything he has gained, and if PUP plays well, their influence will only increase.

No double dissolution.

I think your prediction is pretty close to the mark.....However the longer it takes Abbott to remove the carbon tax the more revenue he will collect as the scheme is still in place???

Huh Huh Huh

Yeas, and you can bet that Palmer will be reminding him of that hypocrisy.  That is......

'Dear Tony, you promised that the very first thing you would do would be abolish the carbon tax.  You have been in Government since not long after the 7th September.  You must refund all tax paid at least from that date.

Love and best wishes,

Clive."

Trying to determine how much every individual has been charged would be difficult I would expect and then there is the question about the compensation payments that Abbott said he would keep???

Huh Huh Huh

Wake up you clown!

so were the liberal right or wrong?  or do you even care about apply stsndards across the board?  the best thing about this question is that you only have two options 1) be a hypocrite or 2) support the CT repeal.

you will however choose 3) - fail to understand the entire post and come up with some waffle.

Yeah, but it IS a TAX

NO
It's NOT
It is a free market TRADING SCHEME
A BUYING and SELLING scheme between HIGH and LOW emitters

As an example ...

Hepburn Wind
will sell ( ... well, WOULD have) its allocation of permits to the highest bidder in the dirtiest coal-generated electricity sector

Not ONE DOLLAR passes through ANY government's hands at ANY profit

( ... you seem to be just as ignorant as Abbott and Hunt on the differences)

try telling companies that have to PAY for it that it is not a tax or an impost.  your description is artificial.

I agree, that's how I think he'll play it too. Abbott hasn't the balls to go to a DD and will try to avoid it at all costs.

well that is one version of a mandate which in your odd world amounts to 'support my own position and nothing else'.

you must have been one lousy lawyer with such a poor understanding of what a mandate means.  it means the right to have YOUR WAY and for opponents to it to stop opposing it.  only ONE position on a topic can possibly have a mandate and most have none at all.

You cannot possibly have a mandate when you were flogged at an election.
