Canberra's National Arboretum.
Aug 23rd, 2013 at 2:30pm

Anybody else been?

I visited yesterday, on an organised bus-trip.

It was bitterly cold, but a really good day was had by us all (ages ranged from
late 40s to some in their 80s).

It really is worth a look if any of you happen to be visiting C'berra.

Here's a link to their web-site:

http://www.nationalarboretum.act.gov.au/

And here's a pic I took yesterday. It's looking south (Black Mountain and the
Telecom Tower are directly behind me) towards the new suburb of Molonglo.

Scrivener Dam and the Zoo/Aquarium are at the extreme left, middle-distance.

Just out of shot extreme right, middle-distance is the newly opened Margaret
Whitlam Pavilion.

I'm not sure which govts/parties are responsible for this, but I'm sure
that there are some who'll cry 'waste'.

To them, I say, 'You're a fool'.

you should have went to the war memorial and paid tribute to those that have laid down their lives for Australia...

I think someone like you would have really benefited from boot camp when you were younger...

I had to google what an Arboretum is. That'll be such an excellent place once much of it has matured.

Good on whichever govt or govts got it happening and completed.
Stuff for the people... always good to see.

That must be the worst suburb name I've ever heard.

I was in Canberra for a few days earlier this year, but I didn't get to see the arboretum.  For some reason I didn't have it on my list of things to see - I think I might have a look at it next time I'm there.

A beaut, isn't it?

Named after the river of the same name...

You shouldn't think, then...  Tongue

Actually I've been to the WM many times over the years, but not for around 20.

There are plans for another visit later in the year.

You can't see everything there is to see in C'berra on a day-trip...

true...

you certainly like your trees kat...

so I would have to assume that you are a large fan of the Liberal governments "direct action" plan where they plan to grow millions of trees..

I know I am ...

going to an arboretum in winter = not the best move. unless all the trees were native.

Many are, some are not.

No, the weather wasn't the best (today would have been perfect), but the
trip had already been postponed once, and it was decided not to postpone
it again.

We all enjoyed it though, regardless of the weather.

As part of a co-ordinated plan, by all means.

As THE plan on its own, then no. Not because it's wrong, but
because it doesn't go far enough.

But I'd support major tree-planting programs whichever party
introduced them, as I simply think it's the right thing to do.

Great idea. Plant more trees. I like trees. They're nice to look at, offer shade and are a haven for critters.

The guy next door cleared about 10 acres of virgin bushland a few weeks ago. Hopefully Mr Abbott forces him to replant those 10 acres first.

After they've planted those 20 million trees and are feeling all warm and fuzzy they can perhaps have a go at coming up with a carbon reduction plan.
