Will Abort slap a gst on all online sales ?
Aug 13th, 2013 at 11:51am

Haven't heard much about this lately. If there are any reporters or journalists reading this then perhaps they could ask Abort about this. I know his libbo mates Gerry Harvey and co are hanging out for it Sad

Nail - this is a forbidden topic - just like negative gearing.

okay suppositories... you've heard the report on this before.  GST on online sales will cost MORE to collect than the tax collected.  That alone is a killer blow.  But since online sales are all way above 10% cheaper, it doesn't change the purchasers motivations one iota.

Try some thinking next time.

Abbott has completely ruled out any changes to the GST, we all heard him the other night right ?????

If Abbott introduces a GST on online transactions it makes his statement the other night a lie.

Abort needs to rule it out period. Not talking about it is no answer.

It's like his answer to the question of gst increases by saying that it needs the support of all state governments. That's not the question.

He didn't actually say that he would rule it out. He said that gst increases are determined by the agreement of all state governments. You need to read between the lines when it comes to pollies answers because they all go to lying school.

I think there
SHOULD be

NEEDS to be

Eventually,
MUST be

With the year by year shift in sales ratio, in the ON-LINE favour - on-line sales will EVENTUALLY play HAVOC with GST receipts - though how this would be DONE is the big problem

Here's MY solution

Put a 12.5% GST ( ... come on, it's affordable) on all off-shore purchases - and pay the, say, American vendor the 2.5% extra as a commission for collection
Non-compliance ( ... though why they would ?) would result in a ban under tax law from trading with an Australian customer base

PLUS - it would give a BOOST - albeit small - to Australian businesses and employment

thats true... "we have no plans to change the GST"..could mean anything.. however a change to on line GST according to those who buy just about everything on line.. it wouldnt  make all that much difference anyway..to the cost.. someone did say the work involved wouldnt be worth them doing it.. but I wouldnmt know about that..

I doubt they would need the States to agree to online GST....

I have always thought it unfair but maybe thats because I dont buy on line.. Shocked

Abbott has already ruled out changes to the GST.  You cant just keep on pretending otherwise with nonsense like this.

It's a pretty simple concept. By way of analogy......if I don't intend to travel to Adelaide, I have no need to look at a map as to how to get there, yes? If I am not actually considering sending a satellite to Neptune, I need not spend money on a commission finding out how much such an exercise might cost, yes.

I don't care if Abbott examines the taxation system, but, as he has zero intention of fiddling with the GST, he needs to exclude the GST from the examination to make it relevant.

but a very effective one.  And the reason why you wont believ that Abbott is not planning GST changes is in large measure that Gillard lied and broke her promise sao quickly and so unapologetically that you imagine everyone else is like her.  Fortunately, they are not.
