Frank, all of the usual hostilities aside, have you read Dungeon Crawler Carl?

I'm currently going through the first book and I'm reading lots of familiar insults you've used on me and others here.

Just curious.

Great book so far.

Jules Verne books were the last sci-fi books I read,  around age 12.

Classic.

Must just be a coincidence.

Guess there's no common ground there.  Silly of me to try.

Survival of the Sickest by Dr Sharon Moalem

Explains why we need disease.  And how the strongest and healthiest males in the prime of life died of the Black and Bubonic Plagues at twice the rate of females.  Whilst females with anaemia etc survived along with those with haemochromatosis.

Very interesting.

Evolution - biological, cultural, social - develops through a series of aberrations, ie 'sickness'.

Leftists and the Ayatollahs have a lot in common when it comes to criticism of Islam, they don't tolerate it.

Evolution is definitely a fascinating subject.

Dr Shoalem explains the problem is with iron.  Bacteria need it to invade our bodies so once in, they use our iron supplies to do it.  Our bodies try to lock up iron so that the bacteria cannot feed on it however there is always a slip up - the macrophages - white blood cells.  Macrophages are the police wagons of the immune system, surrounding the enemy and trying to kill it.  Macrophages have plenty of iron but infectious agents use that iron to feed and multiply which is what the body is actually trying to prevent through iron locking.  But it has a Trojan horse affect as it inadvertently gives those infectious agents access to the iron they need.

Those people with low iron are not supplying the bacteria with the iron which is vital to them to invade the body.  In the case of people with haemocromatosis, their machrophages are really stingy with iron so they have the same result as women with anaemia.  Remember all the bloodletting done over thousands of years!  Maybe they knew something. And what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger!
