OK, can keep 2-3 chooks and wouldn’t need more than that.
Not eating a chook after stop laying, make army boots look tender in comparison. (chinese neighbor served an an old chook up at a dinner.)
So. . .any idea of suitable breeds? Not bantams, but not a huge breed either, good layers.
Rhode Island reds are good layers, get an egg a day most of the time. So if you only want a couple you can't beat them. I've been through lots of chooks, I had 24 at one stage but they piss me off getting into everything you don't want them to get into if you let them free range. I don't have any ATM but I will get some more come spring, just a few. Ive been fixing up the old chook pen this arvo actually. I am putting a small chook fenced yard off it so the chooks don't
1 get into my vegetable patch.
2 my dog doesn't get into them.
My dog doesn't seem to kill them for killing sake but she loves chasing them and she seems to scare the sh it out of them, literally.
