I've never heard of this "Goodsy" guy. Then again, I don't watch AFL.

I thought he looked Greek.

Sometimes I'm staggered by the level of ignorance some people have.

You dont have to watch AFL to know the top half dozen influential players.  I could name the top half dozen of all mainstream sports in Australia ranging from AFL, NRL, to golf and tennis.

I can also recite Don bradmans test average.

Maybe I'm more Australian than others. John Howard would be proud of me, turning in his grave for you numpties.

My lack of knowledge on the AFL is probably due to the Qld media that only ever has information on the Brisbane Lions, and even then, I switch off or over when that comes on.

Fair comment...........I'm in Melbourne, a Swans Club member and a fan of many sports. That said, I doubt I would recognise names of rugby or soccer players simply because I'm not interested in the sport and Melb sports media is AFL crazy.

.....and I also think Adam looks more Greek than indigenous....

Qld media often acts like it's a completely different country up here. I never experienced this while living in NSW.

I'm agreeing 100% with Mistie today.

I usually switch off or over when AFL comes on the TV.

The WA media usually concentrates on WA teams though: I know what Nick Natta Wotty (or whatever his name is) does every minute of the day but have no idea who that Greek guy Adam Goodes is.

Leftist scum in the media out to cruxify a little girl because Goodes wanted to do a Nicky Windmar. Aren't they brave.

Thats a narrow minded view of the world which explains your extreme view. You probably switch off whenever you hear a viewpoint counter to your own.

Has the context of this term - ape - used by the girl been established yet?

I mean, it can be used to mean either "acting stupidly or stubbornly" or that you "look like an ape". Even the latter one may not be a racial slur.

There was an episode of The Simspons once where Lisa called Homer a "baboon". It wasn't a racial slur, it was to do with him being uncaring and stubborn. Additionally, there are many episodes of The Simpsons where Homer is depicted as some kind of ape or monkey, usually to insinuate being of below average intelligence and his odd physical stature.

No, it's not.  I've played football and I've been to WAFL, VFL, and AFL matches.  I simply don't like watching AFL.

And, I don't have an "extreme view".

I don't like AFL: that's all.  I don't want it banned; I don't tell other people not to watch it; I don't care if they put it on TV 24 hours a day.  I don't like it and I don't watch it: nothing extreme about that.

No, quite the contrary.

I enjoy hearing viewpoints counter to my own.

"Has the context of this term - ape - used by the girl been established yet?"

Only that she did not realise it was a racial slur as far as I'm aware.

News in Melb this morning: Eddie McGuire (Collingwood President who rushed to Swans dressing rooms to apologise for Friday night's comment) on breakfast radio talking about King Kong promotion in Melbourne commented "Should we get Adam Goodes down here for it?"

He apologised and attempted to talk his way out of it...kind of reckon that's somewhat worse than the girl's comment??????

There are apes, and there are apes. From one white man to another, ''ape'' mostly is a moderate, if unimaginative insult. Between friends, it might also be a rough endearment.

From a white person to a black person, ''ape'' is more pejorative by far. It is freighted with centuries of treatment as a sub-species, of oppression and subjugation, and in this country, of a history that began with near genocide, withheld constitutional recognition until 1967 and that leaves indigenous Australians still among the most disadvantaged in the nation.

It is not the word itself that cuts to the quick, but the attitude it entrenches.

If she didn't realise it was a racial slur, then she obviously used it in another context.
