Will Rudd finally challenge?

Senior Liberal frontbencher Christopher Pyne says a Labor source has told him Kevin Rudd will again challenge for the leadership in June.

Mr Rudd this week revealed he now supports gay marriage, having voted against it in parliament in 2012.

Mr Pyne told ABC radio on Wednesday the change of stance on gay marriage was a signal Mr Rudd intended to challenge Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

"My information from within the inside of the Labor Party is that (a challenge) is planned for June 3rd ... or the week of June 3rd," Mr Pyne said.

He said the same source had told him about Mr Rudd's change of heart on gay marriage two days before the former Labor leader went public in an essay on his blog.

Mr Pyne said Mr Rudd also planned to make another "interesting statement" on policy within the next two weeks, before launching his challenge.

He said he knew the topic of the statement, but would not reveal it.

On Tuesday, Mr Rudd rejected suggestions his new position on gay marriage had anything to do with the leadership.

Labor frontbencher Mark Butler said Mr Pyne's claim was "complete garbage".

"I have heard no such thing," Mr Butler said.

Won't happen - Rudd isn't interested (if more than half the party don't support him then why would he be?)

The alp will go to the election with Julia (for better or worse).

It is a truely indicative sign of the decline in journalistic standards in this country - that this
powdered fop
is given the air and print space that he is, to live out his fantasies

DOUBTLESS, any REAL intended "leak" from within Labor would go through someone a little more believable than
Christopher Pyne

Is it just coincidence that when Abbott drops a couple of points in the polls Pyne or one of the other poodles trots out the "Rudd Challenge" furphy???

What crap....If Chrissy Pyne knew Rudd was going to support Gay marriage he would have been telling everyone who would listen and linking it to a challenge.....Pyne is only fooling himself!!!

The media has been completely happy with fake whistleblowers, helping them, for example, churn out endless fake “Rudd challenge” stories, with no more effort than pushing a programmed function key on a keyboard. But the media have treated with contempt those ultimate real whistleblowers: Assange and Manning. Their stories needed investigation, work, writing, and – more scarily – would actually involve speaking truth to power. A function once primary for journalists, but apparently no longer — at least not for the Fourth Estate.

This puts the question:

Is Pyne even less honest than Abbott?

There are two boxes you need to tick on Rudd

Does the ALP want him back as PM ?

Does the country ?

If he was to challenge you would need to tick those two boxes.

I don't think Rudd is interested in just Damage control, he would only do it if there was a chance he would win.

The story is what journos call a "beat up".

Must be a slow news day.

Peter Freedman

Most of what journo's produce are beat ups.

Given the ALP polling ...... this is in no way a beat up at all, the ALP leadership is front and centre.

The ALP in the background are not in good shape, there are many who want Rudd back in, but I doubt Rudd does (he might) and I doubt right now he is close on numbers. This issue will get bigger and bigger and I think Rudd wants the ALP to beg him to come back.

Not sure if that means they want Rudd back, but most accept they can not win with Gillard leading the party, so yes the leadership question is very important. Gillard the the main reason Abbott will probably be our next PM. A better ALP leader would have seen the Libs panic and replace Abbott.

No doubt Rudd is fishing for a polpularist angle to improve his public appeal, this is how this guy operates.

It is obviously a "its all about me" strategy.
